I've used Sonar x3 and Platinum quite a bit.  This only just started happening but I essentially can't use Sonar at all.  It crashes when trying to load or start any new project.  I've already uninstalled and reinstalled.  I'm on windows 10 and there have been some updates somewhat recently.  Here's a screenshot link: https ://s16.postimg.org/qp69qt8p1/Sonar_Error2.png

Sorry for the multiple threads.  I don't know how to delete them.  The error says "Database error.  Database connection failed.  Assigned plugin categories and names will be unavailable."  Then there is a second error that says "Database update failed.  The database update utility failed to run.  Please verify that Sonar is installed correctly."  These errors show up at the same time the VST scan is happening on loading Sonar.  Once I try to load a project is when it crashes.

I'm going to try a "Clean uninstall" by following the knowledge base guide dealing with the registry and whatnot.

Are you all set? If not, please log a problem report, then you can reply to that email with an attachment of the dump file that you can get to by alt + clicking the button in the About Box.  Post the number here or PM me and then we can find it and verify.

Thanks, and sorry for the trouble.
Is this on a Dell system that has Dell Backup and Recovery, or one that has AlienRespawn?    We found that can crash SONAR at loading projects.  There's a work around which is either to uninstall the backup software, or run Nirsoft's Shell Extension Viewer to disable three entries for DBROverlayIcon and then do Ctrl + E in that utility to restart Explorer.

I am all set.  I clean installed, but I think the solution was what others agreed worked, to delete the registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Cakewalk Music Software\Shared Utilities\InstallDirectory

Sonar is now working for me.  Somehow, there was some sort of pathing issue.

We should have a fix coming soon that will not require manually deleting that key.
