Hi, I'm just trying to import an instrumental into a track and I'm getting this:

"DirectShow Error 0x80040218
No combination could be found to render the stream."

This is just your average .mp3 file, nothing esoteric or anything like that. I've found a workaround - converting the mp3 into a wave file and then importing THAT... however, that just gets cumbersome.

Any suggestions, please?

Thank you!

There could be something amiss with the file. I'm assuming you can import other MP3s without this error.

If you don't already have it, download a copy of Foobar2000. It's a very useful tool for working with MP3s. I've had many files that would not play on my portable player, but were successfully repaired using Foobar's "Rebuild MP3 Stream" function.

I think this is caused by Sonar not being able to recognise the ID3 Tag - it wont work with v 2.4 but fine with 2.3 so try using a tag editor and saving the tag info as ID3 v2.3.

I also get the same error. I use SONAR 5 and can create mp3 files but can not import these same files into SONAR I can open these and play/edit these files in other software but why not SONAR??

CRedemann, do you happen to have one of those MP3s posted online somewhere that I could download?

bitflipper, no i do not have an place online for you to get the file. It is not any particular file i get this error on all mp3 files. I even went to the place you suggested "Here's a MSKB article that might help. " and did steps 1-4 i could not follow 5 i have XP on that PC. I did follow 6 but all the info was correct. Some of the mp3 files were created in Cool Edit 2000 some in SONAR 5. Only SONAR 5 gives me the error.

When you say "all MP3 files", does that include MP3s that you download from external sources?

Yes bitflipper i get the error from files created on the same computer that SONAR is on, mp3 files created on other computers and the same error on mp3 files downloaded from independent sources. We do have other audio software like CE 2000, Total Recorder, Real Player on the same computer as SONAR but maybe I'm grasping at straws but could there be some sort of conflict with these and SONAR??

Hi,
I had that problem before. You have to reregister the Quartz.dll file in windows

Thanks vksf01, I have already tried the quartz file fix but it did not work. :(
