You might try re-installing DirectX. It's worth a shot, and there's a good chance your DirectX isn't up to date anyway. You can get the latest DirectX here.

Thanks bitflipper,

I followed the instructions for updating DirectX and it was out of date. I then tried to insert a mp3 file into SONAR and got the same error. Consequently i deleted SOANR again and all other audio software and restarted the PC. reinstalled SONAR and got the error again soooo i moved SONAR to a different computer and it works fine there! Uninstalled SONAR from the previous computer and need a little more memory and SONAR will just have to be on a different PC. I guess the other computer will have to be rebuilt.

i just had the same problem. i simply opened the mp3 file in sound forge 10 and did a 'save as' and chose Microsoft wave

the new file imported flawlessly.

solved

I think this is caused by Sonar not being able to recognise the ID3 Tag - it wont work with v 2.4 but fine with 2.3 so try using a tag editor and saving the tag info as ID3 v2.3.

yes.  as soon as i did this, the problem went away.  thanks for the help, guys.

(used ID3TagWorkshop to do the editing)

You have to use a program like Prism File Converter to translate the mp3 file into a .wav file. When I did this it was able to read the file immediately.

Here is a download link it is a free software:

I know this is a tad late to get involved in this but all you need to do is convert the file to a wav file.

maybe it's time sonar was updated to recognise and deal with "modern" mp3 tagging? after all, v2.4 was published on November 1, 2000, and remains the latest version.
