Have Kontakt and my VST are working to record in Sonar (using 8.5 even though I bought the latest version just haven't installed as yet)
Using StudioLive 24.4.2 and my Yamaha MO8, I can record midi in Sonar hearing my VST's as expected, however if I do not have the FW buttons pushed for channel 1 and 2 on the mixer (linked in StudioLive) I only hear and record the default piano from my keyboard, if I punch in the FW, I hear and record the Kontakt VST's.

However when I playback through Sonar, I never hear the recorded midi playing, only the default piano, never the VST's from Kontakt.

Tried both drivers in Sonar WDM and ASIO, and now using ASIO, both produced same results.

Setup:
Sonar
Audio:
Input: Yamaha (OMNI)
Output: Yamaha (OMNI)
MIDI:
Input: Presonus Firewire Audio channel 1 + 2
Output: Presonus Firewire Audio Channel 1 + 2

Kontakt:
Output: Presonus Firewire Audio channel 1 + 2

Also may be important, I started Kontakt as standalone and recorded, do I need to open it in Sonar, if so I have forgotten how since its been a long time since I worked with Sonar.

Incorrect configuration ?

Thank you

You would be best to insert kontakt as a vst in sonar and just use midi from the keyboard.

The midi tracks output should be pointed at a soft synth not back to the controller.. that is why your only hearing the piano.

So, I assume if I insert Kontakt from inside Sonar I can point the midi output to the synth, correct ?
Thank you for the help, much appreciated.

Yes that is how it's done. You are just discovering the wonderful world of Soft synths. No need for outboard sound anymore.
Insert MIDI track.  set it's input to your midi controller ( or USB if so)
Insert a Soft synth
Point MIDI tracks output at that soft synth
Arm the MIDI track for recording , input echo should automatically highlight.
Now play your controller, you should hear the soft synth
Now record away till the cows come home.
If you hear midi latency then by pass any effects that are look ahead like the LP64.

Which record mode are you in?

You need to be in sound on sound mode I believe?

Keni -- o that has nothing to do with playing a soft synth. All modes work the same as far as playing and hearing. Sound on sound is the worst mode as it keep all the mistakes you just made. OVERWRITE is best to start over and get it right. Comping is good if you understand how it works( I don't)

Hi Cactus... I thought the post was saying that he wasn't hearing previously recorded?
