  • Updating Sonar - System Hang During Package Extraction

hey folks,
New Win7 system with Sonar Pro installed and working.
However when I try to update Sonar with latest patch (i.e. Sonar 22.8.0.30) my system hangs during the "extraction" process.
Have to reboot system to get control back (at which point Sonar is corrupted and I have to system restore back to working state).

Have tried updating through Command Center and direct download/install.
But same thing; hangs during extraction when around 40% complete.

Anyone ever experienced this or have thoughts on how to further debug?
Thanks!
K

With either executable or Command Center, right-click and "Run as Administrator".

both of these answers are very good ones.
have you made sure you are up to date on all your Windows updates ?
the redistributable C++ library's / the runtime components of Visual C++ are the most important as sometimes they change often.
So in short, run windows update. (along with the other suggestions by Pwal and Jon)

Thanks guys.
Run as admin and Win Updates are good clues.

Have terabytes of space.
Hopefully not something weird going on in the registry...
Thx again

I had some trouble downloading software from the Cakewalk site, and from a couple others, in the past, using Chrome.  In the past, I have tried the following, and had success eventually, though some were hit and miss - one of these will hopefully work:

1) Temporarily suspended my Avast antivirus software and downloaded with Chrome again
2) Downloaded using Edge browser, instead of Chrome
3) Downloaded using IE, instead of Chrome
4) This one is a bit fuzzy, because it was a long while back - I seem to recall using Chrome, in some kind of beta mode, with a test lab download manager extension somehow involved.

Of the above, I would say the 4th was a bit of a reach, but I only tried that method once, and it was for some other site's downloadable files.  I DID have luck at different times with each of the other methods.

Anyways, that's all I have for you at the moment.  Perhaps with enough coffee, some other part of my brain will spasm up another notion or two. :)

Bob, he's getting the same problem with Command Center.  That means the browser choice isn't in play here.

Disabling the anti-virus is an excellent idea.

A windows update helped resolve (thanks Chuckebaby!)
Had to fix my windows update first (installed latest win update client)
Then a full Win Update resolved the Sonar-install-hang issue.

Love the 8_30 UI enhancements in Sonar!
Ok lets record now...

good to hear. glad your back up and running.
you might want to edit your title (edit the first post) to "Solved". it might help someone down the road who is experiencing the same issue.
Make great music
