Do you use Drum maps to program drums or Piano roll when programming drums? I have Superior drummer. ezdrummer, SSD3  and now addictive drums(I just upgraded to platinum today).
 
From what I understand different drum programs use different drum mappings so you can't just point a midi track to a different drum program so I am looking into using drum maps to program the drums instead.
 
Is there anywhere I can download sonar drum maps or will I have to create them myself?
 
Also can anyone explain the benefits of programming drums using drum maps? Can I still drag and drop straight out of addictive drums or ezdrummer if using a drum map?

Hi there, first time posting but, long time sonar user since sonar 5 studio. I have the same question but, also wanted to know, if anyone knows what happened to the drum maps for sonar, that used to be on the toontrack site. They are no longer there. I like the toontrack stuff (easy drummer 2 and superior) a lot more than the addictive drums because I know them better, and would love to know where to get drum maps for them. Big shout out for this forum, I have learned a lot from you all over the years, and Sonar is the only DAW that I use.

Drum maps are not so much for programing but for setting in and outs as well as providing names for kit pieces. The Step Sequencer is for programing drums as well as other instruments. The PRV is a very good place to program drums in conjunction with drum maps.

Thanks! I have been programming in PRV for years and was just curious if making drum maps would help in programming as its easy to see from a glance what each midi hit triggers in the software(with the correct mapping of course) and to see if anyone else did it another way! I figure I can always learn something.  I know Cakewalk have a drum map you can download for AD2 though so I am going to give it a try to see if it makes anything easier or not.
 
I haven't redeemed the kits yet for AD2 though.

AD2 drum map is included in that article and a walk through of use.

The drum map with AD2 is VERY worth using in my opinion.

I really hope sooner or later Cakewalk improves the drum manager.
I would love to be able to edit names right in the prv. and drum maps are created in that drum view which I much more prefer the piano view with larger names. (just use a custom map and then session drummers default map and you'll see what I mean.
 
creating your own drum maps are fairly easy, just a lot of work entailed. you have to open the drum manager to edit note names, exc. would be much easier naming them right there in the PRV.

I just downloaded though and its called "CwDrSfzMaker".
is this the same as Ins2Map ?

No, CwDrSfzMaker is a tool created Bill Jackson. It makes sfz files for use with the drum replace.
The ins to drum map tool is called Ins2map.zip. It looks like the link on the Sonar Resources and Utilities page is messed up. The link should take you to the Audible Distortion page. Under Tools on that page, click on "Cakewalk Sonar"
