*sigh*

This (not responding) malarkey is really starting to get on my nerves a bit now.

Experienced Sonar user here... Only in the last week or so has this started happening. Could be Windows... Could be Sonar.

No crash dumps. Sonar just locks up and you have to end it.

I wish I could help further with workflow information and what have you, but this is happening on all sorts of different types of projects, either audio only, MIDI only, or both.

Ah well... I'm sure it will be sorted soon enough...

John
Some times that is a temporary notice. If you wait a bit it may respond. I have found that Sonar is waiting for something else to finish before it can proceed when I see that notice. I have yet to have to restart or take any action because of it. But this may not be true for you.

Hi John,

Yeah, I went to make myself a snack and came back ten minutes later and Sonar was still not responding.

I have just rolled back to 2016.06 to see what happens.

I'm currently going back to an old WRK file that was an all MIDI project that I used to drive my small collection of hardware synths. I no longer have my hardware synths set up and I was wondering if it would be worth updating this old project to use my current collection of soft synths.

I've ended up deleting all MIDI tracks except one, which I then set up to drive an instance of Hive. At first, all seems fine, but if I stop playback Sonar hangs.

I opened event viewer and noticed that there was a pedal sustain message in there. Two actually, to hold and then release.

Now that I have deleted those messages, Sonar doesn't hang (at least not yet). It seems that Hive doesn't like those messaged... Weird, but I've learned something new.

I'll have to concede that in this instance, it must be my fault, but I have been having issues in other projects too, so I just jumped to conclusions and went into moan mode. Apologies for that...

I think I'll go ahead and update Sonar to the latest version again and see how I get on. And in this resurrection project, I'll have to check each old MIDI track and get rid of any controller messages that may be causing a problem with Sonar or the soft synths.

cheers

I also get "not responding" when I try to bounce take lanes to clips on a vocal track. This has never happened before latest Splat build.  I'm using the latest build, 22.,9.0 BUILD 36 (2016.09) -x64

In Preferences/MIDI/Playback and Recording try increasing your midi buffer settings...go to like 1000 for starters and see if that helps...then lower it if it does to say 500.  Mine is at 250 on this machine.  Also there can be issues with hangs with certain hardware synth midi recorded into Sonar especially if that keyboard's sequencer is being played into Sonar.  I get all kinds of midi cc data recorded, viewable in the Event Viewer and in the Piano Roll, some of which will hang a project until I delete them.  The offending keyboard so far was a Yamaha MOX6.  But that has cleared up for me and it took looking at many possible issues.  But those two I remember - Midi buffer and Midi CC events.

We'll look into it.
