Does anyone know what version of Sonar/Cakewalk the Edirol VSC Synth is on?  I have a file of a song i wrote many years ago and since I now use Producer 8.5 I can't play my song any suggestions?

Hey Raberje,

I don't have the Edirol VSC but I do have the Roland VSC.  Wait - the files say Roland but when the program launches it says Edirol, version 3.23.  Will that work for you?

Where can I get and will it work with 8.5?

Since the Edirol VSC is a General MIDI synth, use the TTS-1 as a replacement.  Might work fine and easily for you.

I think Windows 98 is the last version it worked with.

The Edirol VSC served the same function the Cakewalk TTS-1 now fills - as a good GM module to start up projects with.  The patches in your old files will have the instruments numbered as per the GM spec, so even though the sound will be different, and the balance may need adjusting, it should be easy to use the TTS-1 to take over since the VSC isn't available.  The patch changes may even be there in your track headers.

I used the VSC on my XP desktop up until not all that long ago, when I was still using Home Studio 6.

I'm running the risk of being misinterpreted as being condescending or unfairly critical (which I am not intending) but this is a prime example of why I always bounce MIDI tracks to audio and export them as Broadcast wav files for ANY project that I remotely consider as worth saving for future use. Save the files to CD/DVD or a separate HD (depending on their size). Both mediums are extremely inexpensive.

If the song was written for the VSC it is also written for the TTS-1. The reverse is not true. What you need to do is set the outs to the TTS-1 and play your song. It will sound the same or perhaps better.
