Thanks, Noel. I've called support about Rapture load before. I've struggled to make videos of it glitching on me but they never come out. There's one above and you can hear it start to crackle.

There are a variety of patches that are an issue (usually the patches I like more -- Ambient crazy pads that create a blanket of sound beneath the guitar).

The reason I like to stop/mute the synth is because when I want to pick up the pace above the level the computer can handle, I need a way to reduce the load on the CPU. Muting the synth removes the constraint and allows me to play anything I want rather than dancing beneath the CPU speed limit. This usually coincides with me starting to sing some song rather than noodling over the pad.

I looked at your video and I understand now what you were describing. Oh yeah with 32 simultaneous voices its going to hit one core very hard irrespective of load balancing. Every synth is processed on a single thread so there is no way that will get better.
So what if we made Rapture internally load balance its voices? How much would that be worth to you :)

You are my hero.

You know I'll pay what it costs, but have I told you about my shoeless child?

Thanks!

Your local child services agency has been duly notified!

Since this thread sorta relates to CPU multitasking, I have never actually seen any of my multicore CPUs multitask. My system always holds the 2nd chore until the 1st one is about finished. If it actually tries to do 2 chores at once you can see the 1st chore slow down to accommodate the 2nd one. Is this also how a true 2 CPU system works?

Soens, you are describing hyper threading which is a way to try to make use of a processor's downtime to shovel more stuff through by having two shovelers.

More processors add conduits to shovel into, in addition to shovelers. The new conduit is the big deal.

Well I used to hear multicore and multiple cpu systems were supposed to process multiple tasks at once. Sorta like what's explained here. But I don't understand any of it nor have I seen my newest systems operate any different than my oldest single core system.

BTW, these are the only shovelers I'm familiar with:
