  • Annoying Process to Get Sonar to see Presonus Faderport

I just got my Faderport yesterday. I setup the fader port using AZController. Got it working using steps provided (I may need a little more help with setup for specific things)but the Faderport is not seen by Sonar everytime I load a project. I try opening up different project to see if one will see the Faderport and it will eventually see it at it's own will but I'm not going to go through a stupid process like this every time.
All the settings are right in Devices and Control surface and in Preferences(Key Touch and Channel Aftertouch is checked) I don't think I missed something.
The AZController says Active and I run the “regsvr32 FaderPort.dll” which passed. USB and power are plugged in.
I found that in order for Sonar to see the Faderport on opening a project I have to open up a project in Studio One first, close that and the Sonar will see it in every project I open. That's pretty funny and another process I'm not willing to do. I'm guessing since it works flawlessly in studio One which is expected it must do something to enable Sonar to see it.
I can't figure out why Sonar won't see the Faderport everytime I load a projec. any thoughts?

Unfortunately, I do not have the Faderport. And there is no documentation how to work with it. I have created the preset for AZ Controller in cooperation with another user which had it. And it can happened something more should be done.

In other words, you problem is most probably not Sonar related, but my AZ Controller / Faderport mode related.
But lets check step by step:
1) when Sonar "does not see it", in the Sonar Preferences/MIDI, do you still see enabled Faderport MIDI ports?
2) you have registered FaderPort.dll, but it should not be used in parallel with AZ Controller. Open Sonar Preferences/Control Surfaces and check that you have either AZ Controller of Faderport, but not both
3) Faderport has different modes. If you use several DAWs, it is possible they are switching the mode (for already mentioned reason, I do not know how to do this from AZ Controller). To switch manually, press "Stop" and keep it pressed till "output"/"undo" start flashing (then documentation is unclear how the mode is indicated by these LEDs). Then press "OUTPUT" for one mode or "UNDO" for another. I do not know which mode you need, please try both.

I guess Studio One is switching Faderport into "correct" (for itself and AZ Controller) mode, that is why it always works afterwards.

Just a thought - do you have the USB for your faderport directly onto your motherboard? I don't have a faderport but I do have a number of Tranzports - the Tranzports do not like working through hubs etc

1. Yes
2. Only AZController
3. I mainly use Sonar so I don't normally open Studio One first. I opened Studio One just to make sure the Faderport was working but I'll get back to you after trying the mode switching.

I can't help beyond offering encouragement.  The FaderPort/AZ Controller combo has been rock solid for me in Sonar.  It also works quite well in Reaper (I use a user contrib controller there too).  Switching back/forth is no problem.

Hopefully you'll get it figured out and have the same great experience.  Hang in there - it's worth it.

Do you have USB Power Management turned off?

The only support I can provide is that my faderport works solidly *without* the AZController.

It works in Reaper, Mixbus 3/32C and of course Studio One Pro 3 no matter which one I open in any order.

IIRC on my system I had to go one rev lower on the then current driver.

But... does it work in SONAR?
