Is the difference between 3.2 and 4.5 gHz considered "marginal?" I ask this seriously. Wow.

You didn't mention what the CPU jump was in your earlier post or I missed it. 3.2 to 4.5 GHz is a pretty big jump so thats a tougher call to make. So for raw DSP processing and low latency performance you will generally get more out of the 4.5 GHz processor, but smoother performance from large projects with more cores.

Thanks, Noel. So, the optimum machine would have a CPU with 8 cores (or more), OC'ed to 4.5 gHz (or more). That machine would smoke pretty much anything.

Cool.

Nah, you need to go 12 core

I think, but I am not certain, that Core 0 will always process interrupts. I don't think that can be changed.
So perhaps Sonar is avoiding Core 0?

I Believe on a Mac, In Studio one 3, one core is grey'd out for such things also?...Not sure about irqs being used in OSX coding persay...Yet, OS needs to tie in the devices..So a core is set for...I believe for just running the hardware devices.
.

MS OS IRQ request might be a issue with cpu and memory, and services running...and the added spooling of keystrokes and data sending, auto updates, and memory holdings for......So, Yes, this could be the way to solve for that on PC , and stability, without too much interruption of what user wants to do.

As always I point out again, and agian...The IRQ demon is at the root of issues still hiding in the code and the design!....Eh?

Cheers!

I agree totally with the above!...But 8 will do...in a pinch and a poke..Lots of memory of a mid to highest speeds, and a good video card with good drivers, and some memory on it to help visually and pointing with the squirrel or mouse...Works most of the time, when not interrupted.....Wink..

Sir Les
If anyone is going to overclock the cpu and other things...Be mindful to make sure you cool things beyond reason!

Just saying...a 8 core cpu is a bit of change!...feeding a cow too much because heat issues toasted it, due to overclocking...Is stupidly done deeds!

Sir Les
And one more tip...Thunderbolt 2 or now 3...I believe helps, as the standard seems to help  with memory access or is directed via...faster....which means lessor service of OS...less interupts...eh?....Perhaps is why it works here better than USB or Firewire?.....Just saying.

Cheers!

Jonesy, if you would like to pony up the difference in price between 8 and 12 cores....

And Dad, I promise not to burn up the computer. If I return it with a full tank, may I borrow the keys again?

Seriously, I had ADK build my last two computers and there was no problem whatsoever with the OC'ing. If/when they build my next machine, I'm sure it will be fine. It's been around, I think, 5 years now running at 4.5 gHz.

i've had nothing but crashes today. saving, exporting, sometimes doing nothing. i would use the fault reporter, but that crashed as well. here's all the info i could get:

Sorry David, can't help, I don't speak Klingon.

@ Outland - wish I could mate, they're not exactly on the budget side of the price fence
