here I am again with the baby questions, I am trying to record a midi track -- I am using oxygen 8 keyboard into alesis I02 for midi interface and I am using the soft synth cakewalk tts1

while the transport is stopped I can play the keyboard and hear the midi play -- I hit record and it records midi of what I play but I don't hear the sounds while I am recording it

at playback I can hear the midi that I recorded (that I couldn't hear while recording)

how do I turn the midi sound on during the recording?  Thanks!

It was on on the channel strip but it was turned off on the tts1 buss -- thanks that fixed it -- not sure how I switched it off -- but now I know another thing to look for!!

Thanks!

oops -- I thought that fixed it -- still not hearing anything when I try to record and the midi is still there at playback

this could be a routing problem. as a test you might want to insert a new synth and send it directly to the master bus.
if that works (you CAN hear while recording) then you know its a routing issue.
I cant really think of anything else at this point. maybe someone else will come along soon and have more ideas.

could also be this

what driver mode are you using for your Alesis I02 ? are you using MME ?
I only ask because if you mixing driver modes with the zoom driver, this might cause internal hardware routing issues.
which we see a lot of here on this forum.

PS- you might want to add your specs your signature.
I know what your using (the zoom + the I02) but other do not and will more than likely skip over your threads not knowing your set up. I know often when im helping people if there is no info listed (hardware, audio card, Windows os type) sometimes I will not even bother. So this betters your chances of good forum users helping you out.

just add it to your signature. (windows OS, audio card, exc). the more the better.
this will only help you out.

OK thanks -- I will add it to my signature -- will have to get it together what I have exactly  -- so far I have never actually used the R8 with cakewalk so there shouldn't be any crossing of the wires there -- I will see what I can figure by looking at what you have posted
