Craig, can I also trouble you for some details on the set up used to record these ?
guitar ? mic pres (di used) ?

I plan on selling this library on the black market and just need some more info .

only kidding. but seriously. just curious on the guitar. I believe, or im guessing you used the VS700 pres.

thanks again for this awesome tool.

IMHO, There is a lot more here than meets the eye and ear ....
A person can take one of the chords , groove clip it and then while in the loop construction view they can use the pitch envelope function to modulate the chord along the lines of what a Funk / Blues /Jazz Guitarist would do when they hit a chord and slide it up or down a fret or two ... once you decide to go there the chordal articulations can become endless
example

in the above example, the A 13 chord slides up 4 semitones during the chords ring , then it comes back down to actual pitch ....

That's very cool! Thanks for the validation of "now that it's in the hands of creative people, you'll probably show me ways to use it I never considered." I'm going to have to try this.

Thank you for the kind words , they certainly mean a lot too me coming from you

The type of treatment I gave your A 13 chord was something I discovered for myself a while back when recording my 8 string guitar into SONAR and using the loop construction tool ....
When I played a held Bass note on my 8 string  , I found that the loop construction tools in SONAR could mimic a mono phonic Moog type of bass thing with the bass register ...
This approach also works fantastic using a regular guitars register  it also works perfectly for giving polyphonic material like chords on a guitar a different type of slant / musical territory when it comes the the phrasing  and string attack

Done correctly it is easy to have the first note hit just like on a monophonic synthesizer and all the following notes of the phrase will be played legato ....

To reproduce that sound in SONAR , lets say you hit a low E note on your guitar , then you let it ring out for as long as one of your library chords ...once you turn this sound into a groove clip you can play around with changing the pitches of some of the individual slices in the loop construction tool ...
The super cool thing is that you can now do stuff like short range arpeggio's that will mimic what a synth will do while doing it's arp thing .
You could even go with playing off a scale or a group of pre set intervals of your choosing ....
The real beauty of this is approach once you add in the ability to change the gain , pan and pitch of every slice
the tone of your guitar is now doing what was traditionally the territory keyboard players held exclusively  ...

I hope you enjoy ,

Kenny

Very cool !  Good stuff ...look forward to getting into that territory in near future  ;o)

Thank you Steve

I hope you go there at some point ...it can certainly be a lot of fun ....this is an area where SONAR really shines

disclaimer ...I'm not a professional writer with a proven track record like Grand Master Sensei Anderton ...

It is no great surprise even to myself that sometimes my posts can be very hard to read LOL
I blame it on my small budget because I don't have the funds to hire a proof reader or an editor

My suggestion would be for you to augment your options when you decide to go there with this tutorial

He did spell out a real nice way of getting the workflow together in a simple concise plan of action ....

all the best,

Hey Steve,

You know what's funny ?
I got this old dilapidated program on my computer that can do things I didn't know it could do
When I saw your post I said to myself hhmmm Kendog , I wonder if this old music program i got on my machine can do the type of editing in loop construction veiw we are talking about ? .....
I fired it up and was able to do pretty much all the same exact edit's in the loop construction view that I was able to do in SPlat

I sure hope Cakewalk don't come after me and try to charge me more money than the $20 I paid for it years ago

Look at what we got here ..we got Music Creator 6 Touch w a Charley Hunter loop on tap w a cool amp sim ....

I didn't mess w Charley ...I want to stay on his good side ....lol
Before I took these screen shots , I did do all the same Jazz and edits on a different clip along the lines of what we have been talking about .....

You certainly don't have to upgrade to try any of this type of thing out at all ..give time time ..when you feel like trying these type of things out you will ....

Now you have me wondering if my first Cakewalk  DAW.... Home Studio 2 can do this type of thing ?

it's been nice rapping with you ,

Kenny

Sorry I missed this and didn't reply sooner. The guitar notes were recorded direct. I'm pretty sure I was using a TASCAM US-4x4 interface (the US-20x20 wasn't out yet when I did the library). If not, it was a Roland Octa-Capture. The guitar was a Gold Top re-issue I borrowed from the Custom Shop.

Sorry, as mentioned in post #46 with the link, it was good for only 7 days. I figured everyone who wanted it would have it by then. Maybe I should add min7 chords and upload again at some point, but my intention was to make it a "limited edition" sort of treat for those who read the eZine and wanted to use the library in their own work.
