  • UAD Plugin UI Stops Showing Status

MY UAD plugins occasionally stop showing status.  So. for example, on the LA-2A I can crank the input gain and hear the difference, but the meter needle is dead and does not respond no matter what I do with the LA-2A controls. Similarly on the Precision series, the metering is usually a pair of lines that move in the normal way. The meters just stop, and any numbers that should show (such as db reduction) are zero, and on one occasion full of garbage characters. If I save the project, restart Sonar again it will restore the same view, and pressing play has the meters and other feeback working ok. I don't know if it's a bug or some setting I need to tweak. I've had it on every Sonar after 8.5, including X3 and now Platinum. Any clues appreciated, thanks.

Wondering if there may be endemic issues with sonar and uad plugins.  I heard  a few hems and haws from UAD customer service the minute they found out I was using Sonar.

Hi. Which version of UAD software do you have? I have read that 8.5 is a no go in Win 10, but I know 8.4 is ok, as I am running it on my studio pc.
All the best.

I have also observed this behavior with various version of the UAD software over the years, only a restart of Sonar resolves it. (embarrassing in front of clients, I know mix with your ears not your eyes...but). I am running 8.5 software on win 10 with no issue ATM.

It's been an ongoing problem with every Sonar after 8.5, as I said, so there have been many UAD software versions. I save and reload the project as a detour, and half expected it would be fixed one of these days, but no. Going back to eph221's comment, I suspect there is something about Sonar's plugin interface handling that changed with the X series. I've had support calls with other plugin builders who have hinted that Sonar is different in this area. I use Reaper too, and have never seen any issues in this area.

Hmm... I've got most of the Precision Series as well as the LA-2A Collection and I don't experience the issues you're describing. Any chance you're using the 32 bit versions of the UAD plugins in 64 bit Sonar?

I'm completely 64-bit.

This might be of no use, but is your UAD pcie or firewire? Different cable / input, different slot (MB)? Which UAD version are you on?
All the best.

It's PCIe but I don't think that's relevant. This is entirely internal to Sonar when mixing. As I said in the OP, I insert (say) Precision Limiter on a track, it shows metering bars, gain reduction in dB in its UI. Later on it doesn't show metering OR any dB values in the reduction section, BUT it still actually works (I can hear it) if I increase gain. I never have this issue with Reaper, only Sonar. If I shut down Sonar and reload the project it's all working again. Every test I do like this tells me that this is a Sonar issue sending update status to plugins.

The reason I asked, was due to me not having any issues with UAD (pcie, but only have a few plugz besides the "basic bundle" and are using it via pcie). Still does not know anything about your setup.
All the best.
