In order to make, record or produce music in a DAW, you need just a bit more than basic computer skills.
DAWs are fairly complex softwares.
+1,000,000. I've told this story before, but a company asked me to do a document on how to transfer audio files from a program they made to an MP3 player. "Keep it simple, it's only three steps, won't take you more than an hour."
I handed in a document with IIRC 23 steps. They were
very upset - "We told you to
keep it simple!" I said fine, tell me which steps I can take out, and I'll do a re-write. Of course, none of the steps could be removed.
It
was true that transferring the files took only three steps. The other 20 involved interactions with the computer's operating system
This is why I always recommend using computers designed specifically for music, a quality audio interface, and a basic graphics card. When I started doing that instead of using off-the-shelf computers from places like Office Depot, 90% of my problems went away.
