if all else fails upload your session to dropbox so other users can look at your routing via download

A great suggestion so we all can learn...I have been with Cakewalk for a while.  Started with Home Studio and continually upgraded (SPLAT Lifer here).  When I had that problem (This was before Aux tracks and patch points), no amount of rerouting worked.  The bus worked like the mute button was stuck ON.  I have not seen it in a while now and only had it happen twice before, but it did happen and no amount of rerouting/changes fixed it until I rerouted the channels feeding it to another bus.

At any rate at least I was able to help even if we did not "fix" the problem, the next time the OP sees this (if there is indeed a next time), there is a quick fix and its back to making music!  Which is the main goal for us all!

Occasionally I see the output of a track get weird, especially when opening up an old session in a newer version of sonar.  The symptoms I get were, panning not working properly, or no output...   the fix on my end is clone the track itself without any automation, just the events.

Thanks for chiming in to help!

Lets take a step back.

When a sound source hits multiple stages, it can get very confusing, and in a daw with as much functionality as SONAR, you can get in over your head fast.

SO - lets do a little routing 101

Here's a basic routing diagram

Snare-----\
Kick--------\
Toms-------->---DRUM BUSS {EQ/COMPRESSION}----------       \
Hat---------/
Cyms-----/

Bass {EQ/COMPRESSION}------------------------------------------------------           >    MASTER
                                                                                            /
Key 1----\
              >----Key Buss {EQ/COMPRESSION}----------------     /
Key 2----/
                                                                                      /
Guitar 1--\                                                                     /
Guitar 2--->--Guitar BUSS {EQ/COMPRESSION}------------/
Guitar 3--/

Notice - the only time a buss is used is when we have multiple tracks that need to be grouped together to control their volume, or add compression or eq to them all... such as all drums, or all keys..etc.  Everything should go into the MASTER.  Streamline your routing as much as possible.

Tracks - Buss(if necessary) - Master -

Looking at your picture, I'm going to ask why there is a main out and a stereo out routed into each other, as well as a bass buss.

In Sonar - there are tracks, busses, and then the outputs into your actual soundcard.  In most cases you should only be using 1 stereo pair of these, unless you are setting up multiple monitor mixes, or mixing 5.1

Also - I see that there is a solo command on the bass buss - which means you may need to solo enable other channels to get the full volume.  If you have the "dim" solo enable it would decrease the volume.

I get what you're saying... I just like to keep things together in the buss area, it's a pain to be slide the bus and track areas around looking for tracks when mixing... :)

peace!

AHA!  Me too!  You know - an aux track has the same functionality as a buss in SONAR... AND it exists in the track pane.    Since this feature came into play I do pretty much all of my instrument busses now in an AUX track, and all of my effects returns as busses

Not a bad plan...I haven't totally embraced Aux Tracks and Patch Points yet...Maybe someday, but I get confused seeing the Aux Track mixed in with my regular tracks.  Since my stuff is relatively simple, maybe next time I will give it a whirl.

Sounds like a plan for the next project... Not gonna try and retool mid stream... :)

Maybe a topic for another thread, but I just started using AUX tracks and really find them quite useful. The main way I use them is for creating vocal delay throws. The aux track is right underneath the vocal that I'm "throwing" in Track View, and you just put a delay plug-in on the aux, and use a send from the vocal to the delay in the aux track. Then you can see the send automation right underneath the vocal track. Much easier than using a buss, IMHO.

Hello,
Aux only works with echo on?

Correct.    Input Echo controls live input for the tracks feeding that Aux Track as it does for live plugin usage on a normal audio track.
