this is a 'next to final' mix for this 8th song on my upcoming album release called "Trouble".
it's the 'rocker' on the album. short and sweet.
i'm looking for mix translation issues.... and suggestions for mix changes if you hear some.

my initial list of things i think i need to tweak:
1. vox too loud.
2. kick drums needs a touch more impact, more high end smack.
3. 1st section may be too low in relation to 2nd section.
4. snare may need further brightening. or, everything else needs to be less bright.

any ideas are appreciated.

Killer song! You always go for the jugular and you nailed it on this one. Fantastic guitar work. If I had my stuff to this level, it would already be out there. But to your tweaks:

1. If the vox is too loud it's not by very much. It does slightly obscure the great riffage at times but it's a taste thing imho.
2. More kick would be a good thing probably.
3. I like the contrast of the two sections, don't really see a problem with the relative volumes.
4. Snare sounds cool to me, lays right in there.

Just great stuff.

That's a excellent tune! Great work.
The only thing I would do is beef up the drum sound a tiny bit. They aren't as full sounding as the rest of the mix imo. The drum volume is fine.
Great work on all fronts!

1. Sounded OK here
2. Yes touch more thwack and a little more bottom end whomp
3. Tad to long for me
4. Seems OK to me.

hey kev, thanks man, for listening and commenting.......

vox obscurings, i guess have to be secondary to all else.... so i might have to live with that one.
maybe hardcore panning, during the small sections that have lead solo and vox, would fix that

more kick check

the contrast was meant to be just that, contrast.....
but maybe i can bring them a little more together, and it still work.

Just a little more clarity on the kick drum for me Rob, I really like the snare as it is, sounds like Ian Paice's. Fab 2nd section, just brilliant stuff. I thought the first section sits OK with it, like a prelude.

thanks for listening james....

kick is cool to mix,
i have a low track and a high track..
bring up a touch of the high track, voila!
instant clarity.

i have them going thru a parallel compressor as well,
so i adjust that to taste in tandem with making slight level changes.
boom!
there it is

yea, the opening section is just that... a prelude.
it's kinda moody, and ominous... like a brewing argument....
then, the statement of intent!
heheh
