Hi all!

I always get a crash whenever insert the LP EQ into track while playback.

I'm wondering.. How about you guys situation. Is it Ok? Never got a crash?

(FYI, Otherwise, i.e, NOT while playback, it is ok. But It would be cool if I never get a crash.)

I'm using it on win7 64bit, sonar platinum.

Thanks!

Best,
SOHN.

That plugin is a bit of a cpu hog. Just increase the buffer size until it works the way you want it.

just don't - don't insert plugins WHILE playback, simple as that, even Ozone 7 makes Sonar lag if I drag&drop it while playback is running :D

In general one should be a little careful when using and inserting heavy plugins that are mainly designed for mastering use. Reading posts about performing edits or inserting stuff during playback I always wonder how big risks people take quite unnecessarily. IMO it's simply asking for trouble, even if it works OK most of the time.

Yes, Kalle is correct.
Certain plugs that are CPU intensive can choke out your project (dependent somewhat on how much is going on in the project already). A good rule of thumb is to take the time to stop the playback while inserting certain plugins. After sometime you'll build an instinct for which plugs are light enough to insert during playback, but still, in general safer to take a second to stop playback to insert. Might seem cumbersome, but just think about how in the hardware pre DAW days it would take you a lot longer than a few seconds to patch in effects from the rack and to reconfigure certain rack effects , comps etc.

btw it's also a reason I really like Bitwig logic - it's "sanboxing" the plugins, so even if plugin crashes, everything else keeps flowing without a hiccup, it's something Cakewalk could learn from, I believe it could be what "Plug-in Load Balancing" future Sonar update might offer...

I believe it is a bad habit to try to do too much during playback. I am trying to always stop first. Even just inserting a buss, I noticed inserting it during playback caused the playback of the newly bussed track to jump out of sync with the rest of the tracks.

Totally agree Steve.

Trying to do too much whilst playing back is just asking for trouble.

Never insert or delete plugins during recording or playback. Especially not a linear-phase EQ or other high-latency processor that requires buffer allocation and PDC re-calculation. Even if it doesn't crash, it's likely to throw your tracks out of sync until you stop and restart playback.

I agree with everything said above. LP EQ is a hog. Definitely don't insert on the fly. It (and everything cpu intensive) always throws things out of sync for me. If you want to AB it on several tracks, consider saving it as a scene in Mix Recall. Also, the linear phase part can be disabled, lightening each instance considerably, while still retaining many of the cool features of it.
