Hey Guys.
 
I am trying to create some drum tracks for me (Guitar) and our Bass player to play along to before we get a drummer. I am now at the point of putting down the notes in either Step Sequencer or Piano Roll but I am a little confused which one would be best.
 
The step sequencer looks easier to use to put something together but its limited to 64 beats so doesnt look like it would work for anything long enough like our 6 minute song. The piano Roll doesn't seem to have that issue but it does not look very friendly or easy to use.

if you're on splat, use addictive drums 2. takes a while to master, but there's a wealth of tutorials. all you do is select a kit, select a beat, drag-n-drop the beat to a midi track routed to ad2. earlier versions of sonar have session drummer...
 
or, use fruity loops to create patterns, save as wav, import into sonar.

I did look at  Addictive drums but I don't seem to have it. I have Sonar Professional from Steam purchased in February this year (2016). Is that normal or should I have  Addictive drums? Like you say... there were quite a few videos.

I mostly use the Drum Pane in the PRV with a drum map.
While the step sequencer has a limit of 64 beats, there may be more than one step sequencer clip in a MIDI/Instrument track and each clip may use a separate instance of the step sequencer.

Addictive has its own installer, the link and your serial number should be in the email you got when you purchases sonar, or in your account, software…

SO you should have Solo Bundle (choose 1 ADpak). But go to Cakewalk site SSO account https://www.cakewalk.com/My-Account and choose my products then XLN Addictive Drums and get serial & instructions there

Doesn't look like I do. Well that's pretty rubbish that just because I chose to purchase it over Steam its a different product. It is not advertised that way.
 
Upgrading to the Sonar Lifetime and Platinum is also an issue. I spend money upgrading from Steam edition to Professional edition but now there is an upgrade from from Steam edition OR Platinum to SPLAT edition for the same money. That does not seem fair to me. All that other money upgrading to Platinum is wasted.

Yes, it is really confusing. Please write to sale support. In the contrary to technical support they tend to answer. But be patient it could take a while.
Such big difference can be kind of bug on your account.

It is also pointed Professional should include XLN Addictive Drums 2 Solo.
