A friend is considering getting a laptop for SONAR so I decided to dust off one I'm not using and see how well it would handle SONAR Platinum's trial version. This computer was bought in 2013 if I remember correctly and is an ASUS with an i7, 8gb Ram, 2620, and Windows 7. I downloaded the Command Center and proceeded as instructed. It looks like everything downloaded but during the set-up I got this error, and every time I try to open the program I get the same error. It says: api-ms-win-crt-runtime- |1-1-0 dll is missing, try reinstalling.  I only installed Platinum and did not click "Install All." I'm wondering if this missing dll might be in one of those programs, but on the other hand it seems everything to run Platinum correctly would have been included in the basic install.
This laptop has better specs than the HP I'm using as a backup that is running Platinum and X2 Producer just fine. I thought the older laptop that I'm testing now would handle any late version of SONAR with no problem, but it appears there is a problem anyway.
I'm hoping someone can tell me what this error means and what I can do to fix it.
Thanks.
DS
(I already have a purchased copy of X2 Producer and Platinum on the laptop I'm using now, and also the desk top tower that is my primary DAW. I never got this error when installing the trial or purchased versions on either of these machines. I'm not trying to authorize three computers, I'm just trying the trial version of Platinum to see if it works on the older laptop since I figured if that laptop could handle Platinum it could handle any of the older X versions of everything. If it worked good I could de-authorize the every day laptop I'm using now and authorize the older ASUS and not have to keep hooking up and unhooking my every day laptop.)

sounds like you need the Microsoft redistributable C++ update.
make sure to do all your updates for windows.

Thanks for the replies. How long does this take? I went to the website and am trying to do updates. However, after thirty minutes is still says "Searching for Updates." Is it searching, or did it search and find them and now it's downloading them?

One of the instructions said to run a check on the computer for updates and I did that too, and it says it's been searching my computer for over half and hour too, and neither one seem to be getting anywhere.

Is this the normal procedure for how this works? Usually a computer can find an update in seconds. This seems to be taking a much longer than normal time and I wonder if it's just stuck and going in circles.

Thanks again.

Yeah, I feel your pain. If you haven't updated in three years you're in for a long process. I recently went through this with my wife's machine. She has had updates turned off for the last four years and it took pretty much all damn day to get the thing current. I don't know whether it said searching or what since I pretty much left it alone.

Looks like I had X1 and X2 Producer on the machine, and now I've downloaded Platinum. It appears that I have done the main update, but none of the Sonar DAW programs open. I may tinker with it a little more, but I don't think this machine is going to work out as a potential DAW. I'm probably just going to leave everything where it is on the two authorized computers and leave well enough alone.
Thanks for the suggestions. I still probably need to do the updates anyway, so maybe I'll try again and just leave it for a few hours and let it do whatever it wants to.

It looks like it did 178 updates last night. I didn't know there were 178 things to update!

i hate to say it, but you should run windows update again (and again if necessary) until there are no more found

hopefully, though, you're done after the 178!!

im only speaking from personal experiences but the redistributable C++are usually the most important ones. the ones that prevent Sonar from operational use.
