Hi Noel,

I was running the new update 1 and it was still crashing.  It was hitting the Sqlite assembly that was installed by AlienRespawn (Dell product).  Maybe your installer didn't include the updated Sqlite?  I'm guessing since I don't have access to the code :)...but VS2015 pro running the executable was pointing to an invalid operation on that DLL Assembly located in the AlienRespawn installation directory...which meant that was the authoritative install of Sqlite.  Removing it fixed the issue.

Regards,
Mike

Thanks for the info. It sounds like a bug in their assembly. Can you share information on how we can try it out - is it downloadable?

Edit: I found a link on Dell's site http://www.dell.com/support/contents/us/en/19/article/Product-Support/Dell-Subsidiaries/alienware-support-site/alienware-respawn
Is this what you were using?

When I updated to 2016-8 I experienced two different types of crashes:
    1. Those of the "white-out" variety.
    2. Starting Sonar would occasionally cause the computer to reboot.

After updating to 2016-8 update-1 the first type of crash hasn't been seen, but I didn't use Sonar all that much.

If I were to run Sonar for awhile then shut it down but leave the computer running, then when I start Sonar back up, it reboots the computer for me.

Moreover, the Edit>Preferences>VST Settings to recycle VST windows no longer has any effect.  I can't have two VSTs on screen at once, a sure workflow speedbump.

I rolled back to 2016-7.  I don't know about crashes yet, but Recycle Windows remains broken.

Good news Noel.  I installed the latest version of ReSpawn you have posted above and there are no issues.  I suspect you are correct...they probably had a bug in their assembly or were using an older version and maybe some newer features were not available.  They also had it installed in their local directory.  It seems to be gone in the new version.  I searched my system and there are no longer any traces.  So maybe you ask dell for an older version (I purchased December 2014) or you just advise anyone with ReSpawn uninstall and install the latest version.  I'm still confused as to why their older assembly would override yours after update?  It was definitely there in the callstack and I verified it was using the one in the ReSpawn install directory.

FYI...it happened on project load only, not application load.  So I was able to start Sonar, but not load project.  Also, I was able to see the project load right before the access violation message.  So hopefully that helps zoom into the code location.

In Piano Roll view, the controller pane shows that the pedal events were recorded, but the events were assigned to CC:66 - sostenuto.

SONAR just records what the controller sends. I'm guessing that when you swapped pedals, you plugged it into the Sostenuto jack. If your controller has only one pedal jack, it must just be configured to send CC66 - check the Oxygen user manual.

In any case, it's highly doubtful that his has anything to do with the update.

You are quite right. I should not have blamed SONAR - turns out the Oxygen 88 controller was defaulting the sustain pedal to CC 66 even with a factory reset.  After manually re-assigning the pedal to CC 64 and to toggle between values 00 and 127, all is good.

maybe the plugin manager needs three (3!) options:

rescan plungins
reset plugins
reinstall plugins *

I went into command center and saw that after i did a system restore a few weeks ago that Sonar was on the May update. I updated to the latest around Noon, (now 12:45pm)  I've been doing the exact same things I was to cause the crash and haven't had any of those crashes yet.
If so you know i'll report back lol.
