Looking for a transient shaper in my SPro. Don't readily see one. Should I?

Thanks for any help!

Platinum only, I believe:

Transient by Audio Assault is a pretty good freebie though.

Hey, thanks. Yes I had grabbed the AA freebie. No frills but it seemed to get the job done. Waiting for a Waves or Izotooe to go on sale. Maybe grab one if those.

The Waves Transient thingy isn't that great. I got it in a bundle but I wouldn't pay for it separately. The CW one in Platinum is actually quite good, if you can't get what you want with regular compression.

Yep, depending on the source material and what you're trying to do, compression is a viable alternative to a transient shaper

My recommendation: Use a Transient Shaper to augment your signal vs. be inline. You can either copy the track to another track with the shaper, or use a Aux/Send to deploy the Shaper instead of letting it change the original signal too much.

For example, I use the TS-64 on a buss as a destination for a Send on my snare track. I'll tweak the TS-64 to only allow the first 10-20ms of the snare to come through, then mix it back into the Master buss. This way, no matter how hard I slam the mix, I can always get that initial attack to come through. Mixed into the rest of the song along with the original snare track, it sounds great, but it sounds awful on its own.
