let's say i have track recorded at 100 bps. I'd like to create a dynamic tempo map to let the piece breathe. Using the drawing tools for tempo is clumsy at best and I would like to play in a tempo map using e.g. CC1.

Q: is that possible in Sonar?

thanks for any suggestions!

That would be very interesting.
But from what I researched, it seems that there is no solution to this.

Does anyone know if is there any plugin that allows you to assign a controller to create tempos?

Assuming soft synths/midi, David Baer created "Maestrolizer" that does a great job of this, albeit as an external (to Sonar) application. It appeared in the first (May 2013) issue of Soundbytes magazine - and included a great article as well as a link to Maestrolizer.
But yes a "conductor" function in Sonar would be a great add.

Just record the original track without a click/metronome, and allow the tempo to flow the way you want it to. Then use Maestrolizer to build the tempo map and assemble the rest of the project. I'll often use a basic piano track as an initial scratch, then set up a drum track to the tempo map that's created and redo the piano add guitar etc

Good tip, but the little I read the "readme", it is something similar to the "Fit Improvisation" which is already native in Sonar.
In this case, I prefer to hit the keyboard every quarter note, dictating the tempo.

That's exactly what the app is doing too. The article discusses Fit to Improvisation as well - and some of its limitations. I use it (Fit to Improv) too.
