  • [Resolved] The Whereabouts of StudioVerb 2...

If you look under "Reverbs" on the SONAR X2 included plug-ins list, you will find "DSP-FX Studioverb (32-bit Only)" as well as "StudioVerb 2" both listed.

Now, I already know that the 32-bit DSP-FX plug-ins will only work in 64-bit SONAR with a VST wrapper and so on, so I didn't bother installing them...

But I'm puzzled as to why StudioVerb 2 does not appear in my plug-in manager (nor in search results for "studioverb" on my entire hard drive), when it appears to have no note of "32-bit Only" on the included plug-ins list, and especially when effects like, say, Tempo Delay or Para-Q (which, at least in appearance, look to be from the same family of effects) ARE on my system. What's more, when looking back through the X2 installer, I can find no option for installing StudioVerb 2 at all!...

So where is this effect? Was it accidentally left out of the X2 installer? Is it right under my nose and I'm just missing it?

Any answers to this little mystery would be much appreciated!

BY default the 32bit DirectX plug-ins are not installed when installing 64bit SONAR. To install the 32bit DirectX plug-ins requires running an advanced install and selecting the plug-ins.

The half-rack effects like "Tempo Delay" and "Para Q" don't look like the DSP-FX plug-in series to me. The half-rack effects were inherited from Project 5 and ported to 64bit. IIRC, the DSP plug-ins are older. I am not sure who wrote either series but my guess is the Project 5 plug-ins were written in-house.

Scook: Take a look at the second and third links in my original post. "DSP-FX Studioverb" and "StudioVerb 2" are two distinct effects, the latter being the one I compared to "Tempo Delay" and "Para-Q".

While "DSP-FX Studioverb (32-bit only)" appears in the advanced install, "StudioVerb 2" does not (at least not in mine). As a side note, all of the other rack style effects that look to be from the same family (AliasFactor, Classic Phaser, Stereo Compressor/Gate, HF Exciter, Mod Filter, Chorus/Flanger, Para-Q, and Tempo Delay) appear in the advanced install plug-in list; only StudioVerb 2 (or "StudioVerb II" as it appears on the VST) is missing.

PS: I even checked in the 32-bit advanced install, and it's not there either.

From what I could gather through past forum posts, my best guess is that either it is the only one of that group of effects that never got ported to 64-bit, or that someone accidentally left it out (perhaps believing it was the same thing as DSP-FX Studioverb) of the X2 and (I just checked) X1 installers.

Otherwise, I'm stumped...

Sorry, read too fast. I just ran the X2 installer up to the "Select Components" screen to see what is not part of the basic 64bit installation. In addition to the ones marked (32bit Only), here are the other plug-ins not installed:
  • CW-Reverb (Mono)
  • CW-Delay (Mono)
  • CW-EQ (Mono)
  • FX1 Dynamics Processor
  • Parametric EQ (this is different from the Para-Q).
  • SpectraFX
  • Stereo Reverb
I do not know why they are not part of the basic install but they have not been at least since X1, the oldest version I have on my PC. I was under the impression the plug-ins not installed would not run in 64bit SONAR. If you want them you will need to run an advanced install.

I'm just wondering where this plug-in is, and why there is no option to install it anywhere in the X1 or X2 installers, 32- or 64-bit.

I don't know. Might be something to ask Cakewalk Customer Service.

IIRC StudioVerb 2 is a 32-bit only DX effect. It can't be used in 64-bit Sonar, because there is nothing for DX to link 32-bit plugins with a 64-bit application like BitBridge is doing for VST. No idea why it should be missing in the installer, I know I had it installed some time ago.

Ralf: Make sure you're not confusing this (what I'm asking about, which has no note about being 32-bit only) with this (which, as you describe, is indeed a 32-bit only DX effect).

But to the larger point, this isn't even a "How can I run StudioVerb 2 on 64-bit SONAR" question, it's a "Where the heck IS StudioVerb 2" question...

Yes, I mean StudioVerb 2 (can't remember the other StudioVerb). I'm pretty sure I lost it when switching from 32-bit Sonar to 64-bit. But this was years ago ...
