Maybe he should just buy SONAR Platinum with Lifetime updates?

All my Waves plugs (Mercury, SSL and Abbey Road bundles) have ALWAYS just worked in SOANR. I've been on Waves since Version 7 and am currently running the latest version.

Just to add my 2 cents...Pro Tools on a Windows system is painful.  Using multiple monitors requires stretching the work area across the monitors, you can not "undock" the mixer and place it somewhere else.  Midi is VERY clunky, so using it as a composing tool is rough.  It has it's strengths, but I'm way better on Sonar.

I have clients sending me AFF/OMF files to mix with and they are not totally compatible with Sonar.  So I'm forced to subscribe to Pro Tools 12.  $300 per year. To use a product I'm not happy with.

If we can just step up the AFF/OMF thing with Sonar, get Staff view updated,  get the "ripple" thing happening, port over to Mac (for the Mac people, not me) I'd be sooooo happy. Sonar would rule my world.

It will probably happen the day I decide to retire.

Surely your friend has other plugins that he can substitute for the Waves stuff? Or is there some specific Waves plugin that you can't do the mix without? Seems the easiest solution for now would be to use alternatives to finish the mix.

Waves is about the only company where I've used their support, and it's always been excellent. Contact them and explain your situation. I think it very likely they'll have some kind of solution, you're probably not the first person to encounter this.

reminds me of the time I got upset with sonar (when the X series was introduced) and went to pro tools for a few months. I think we know how that story ends.
needless to say I've bought all 4 X series versions of sonar and have not looked back.
with the risk of sounding like a fan-boy,Sonar just does what I want it to. it also helps that the learning curve is not there.

I did however like some of Pro tools options and workflow. some of their stock plug ins were half decent as well. but as I said, Sonar just works. my work habits flow, its like driving that car you've had for 10 years.
you know what to expect, you know how it will react and it knows how you react to it.

sooner or later someone is going to invent a DAW software that study's the way you work and adapt to your habits.
are you listening cakewalk ? even though your high on the charts with me...you could be the innovator of modern DAW technology.
but im guessing with that type of technology you'll come home one day and your software will have stolen your wife and moved out of state.

If only! That would have saved me a TON of money at divorce time.

Thanks! That is good info and I will send it to him. I am a faithful Sonar user and he is just hesitant to move away from ProTools even though this situation is making him re-think it.

Thanks for the tip. We didn't find this article in our search but it looks promising. He jumped on the forum just a few minutes ago and is planning on calling Waves to resolve.

Their site no longer provides the ability to download older versions. That is simply not true. I know because we tried all last night. He did find an older installer on Gearslutz that seems to work but it still broke some of the plugins so he is not completely back up and running. He just found that a few minutes ago. We may be back in business for the most part.

This whole topic is full of nonsense.
I just logged into my Waves-account, and you can download installers as far back as version 6.
So you can get version 6, 7 , 8 and 9. Sorry but this is all about user ignorance.
Contact Waves and let them help you.

Also Waves never forced an update on me. I have been been using their plugins for more than 10 years.
