I have new M-Audio Oxygen keyboard.  Everything in preferences is set according to my book and all the instructions I find on-line, including the ASIO panel buffer size slider all the way left.  Tech support at Sweetwater, where I bought the keyboard, spent 1 1/2 hr hooked to my computer, reading on-line, experimenting.  He said that everything he knows about is set correctly.  Cakewalk software is suffering whatever it is suffering and will not respond.  Does anyone here have any Idea why there is still impossible latency?  I don't see how the problem can be with the keyboard, it just sends a signal when you hit a key.  Latency has to be in the computer.

Looking at related threads, I'm using a Focusrite Scarlett 2i preamp.  It shows in the ASIO panel, with the buffer size slider as fast, all the way to the left.

I know you want to get your M-Audio and Focusrite drivers working properly and hopefully you can, but have you tried ASIO4ALL or Windows drivers with Sonar?

USB keyboards are subject to the vagaries of the USB bus. Make sure you aren't plugging the keyboard into a USB port that is on a shared bus with other high traffic hardware, like your audio interface.

Also avoid USB hubs, and remember that some audio FX have a look-ahead that increases latency dramatically. Type "E" to bypass all effects and see if that helps.
 
Typical latency with a USB keyboard is around 7 ms.

Preferences show total hardware and software latency at 6.3ms.
My HP laptop has 3 "USB composite devices" on hub 1, with different ports, and 1 "Intel (R) USB 3.0 eXtensible host controller" with location - "PCI bus 0, device 20, function 0".  I have tried plugging Scarlett2i into USB 3.0 with keyboard plugged into a port on hub 1 and the reverse.  Latency stays the same, I'm guessing 1/8 to 1/4 second.  Enough to be impossible to play the keyboard.

And FX is off

I'd recommend downloading/installing the latest Focusrite drivers for your interface.

Be aware that there are different drivers for Scarlett 2i2 and Scarlett 2i2 (2nd gen). If you do install another driver, you will need to select it in Sonar's preferences.
 
Also consider contacting Focusrite (or M-Audio) support:

If none of this works, try the Oxygen keyboard WITHOUT having the Focusrite connected to help narrow down the cause of the latency.

not sure if this helps but I use an Oxygen 49 USB with my Focusrite and I don't have any latency at all.
I would make sure your Focusrite drivers are installed properly and that the Oxygen is selected under midi devices.
also make sure to install the Oxygen's drivers (from Avid)
personally I would plug your interface into one port, the oxygen in to the other. use the third port with your hub (for mouse, exc).
but I believe enough good advise has been given I don't want to add any confusion.
 
 
PS- unless the Scarlett is a 3rd gen, I would try at all cost to plug it in to a USB 2 port.
that's what Focusrite told me when I asked about possibly better results using a USB 3 port.

Recommend these steps:
 
>Temporarily set the Sonar audio playback and recording driver mode to a Windows audio driver.
 
>Uninstall ASIO4ALL.
 
>Download and install the Focusrite drivers for your Scarlett device.
 
>Update the Sonar audio driver mode settings with the new ASIO driver from Focusrite (should now be the only ASIO driver on your PC).
 
FYI: the only use case that I am aware of for ASIO4ALL, is if you do not have an audio interface for your PC.  From the developer's site: "What started as a bedroom project in early 2003 - for the sole purpose to get ASIO support for the AC97 on my laptop - has become ASIO4ALL".
