  • New? Or did I not know? Starting project without naming first! [<ouch>!]

I was surprised the other day when I accidentally did this...

I don't know when this was added/changed, but it can be very helpful as it's often hard to create a name until you hear what you've made....

...and recording on the fly can be much faster!

Thanks Bakers!

Hi. I believe that this feature was introduced with the "new" Start Screen. I agree that this helps when creating something new.
All the best.

Thanks Zargg...

Makes sense...

I don't use the start screen so I didn't pay much attention... Show me I've gotta keep on my toes more! ;-)

However there are some fine points of which you should be aware, specifically, where the audio ends up. Please see the Week 110 Bonus Tip: Deciphering New Project Options from Robert E. Bone in "Friday's Tip of the Week."

If you normally use Per-Project Audio folders, keep in mind that audio recorded in an unnamed project will go into the Global Audio folder.

Big <ouch>!

Thanks for the warning gang... I guess it'll be an update at some time, but for now I will not use this...

I know how to create a new project and extract the files into a discrete (song based) folder, but that still requires more clean-up so I will stick to the age old habit until....

Thanks again everybody!

Did you check out Craig's Week 110 tip?

There are 5 ways to start a new project, some of these will dump all audio into the Global Audio Folder, others utilise the Per Project function.

Pror to this I used to use ctrl+n to do it.

When I had something that I felt deserved a name, I would "save as" making sure "save audio with project" was checked.

I seem to do this less and less, now. Everything gets a name, even if it's just "Before Inspiration".

I like to include the date in unknown song titles - "synthexperiment9_13_2016"

So as to avoid having to come up with a name as another creative flow impediment...I always default to just the date...in most to least significant order (i.e. yyyymmdd).  So, today's project would be 20160913.  That way, the projects will sort in chronological order.

(If I'm so wildly productive that there's more than one project in a day...it will be 20160913_0,1,etc.)
