Ah OK that's really weird.  I don't know why the audio engine would drop out without anything playing regardless of how many effects you were enabling or disabling.  The only thing I can think of is if you have PDC (Plugin Delay Compensation) on and when you enable the plugins, it all of a sudden needs a much bigger buffer or something?  That's just a wild guess though.  Best of luck in finding a solution!

well, currently it seems that i resolved problems with dropouts.

and only thing remaining is that one project is failed to be loaded - Sonar goes to some kind of
infinite loop for some reason :(

I haven't read the entire thread but have you tried opening the rogue project in Safe Mode?

I noticed you mentioned you didn't think something in Windows, like WiFi, could be part of the dropout issue, and I want to strongly disagree with that premise.

I have personally experienced MASSIVE DPC Latency spikes directly caused by WiFi drivers on a laptop I have owned, as well as on a desktop that I briefly had a WiFi adapter plugged into.

MANY MANY MANY Sonar users have reported DPC Latency spikes from WiFi being enabled during Sonar sessions, and i STRONGLY recommend you consider temporarily disabling the WiFi adapter device in Windows Device Manager, just before you start a given Sonar session, and then Enable the WiFi adapter device again in Windows Device Manager, after you finish your Sonar session.  OR, if there is either a hardware switch on your computer for turning the WiFi off, or a function key to do it, either of those methods would work too.

I don't see in this thread where you have any indication of WHY you believe you may have resolved your dropouts, and would be very interested in you posting what was changed to reduce/eliminate those in your system.

I am very happy that you have gotten past the dropouts, by the way - I am both curious to understand what you found out and changed, and think that others in the future would benefit from knowing specifically what you altered to get the dropouts to dimish/cease.

thanks for the advice on wi-fi issues.
will try to turn off wi-fi connection and see what happens.

as for drop outs then i changed two things:

* increased buffer size
* updated sound card drivers

second one is what think is the most significant change.
the problem with TC Electronic Konnekt 6 is that there was no driver for Win 10 so i used the one
compatible with Windows 8.1. it actually worked and i used it since 2015 August when i bought new PC
(i didn't want to go to Windows 8.1 because i initially had a clean Win 10 install and so on).
now it appeared that TC Electronic guys work on new driver and there are beta versions available
(and recently even release candidate). with its installation glitching disappeared and dropouts as well
(or let me say that at least drop outs are now rare and occasional, not systematic as they were before).

I have to say that i still don't like that Sonar opens project very slow.
unfortunately its hard to say what is the reason because Sonar does not
provide log file or startup screen statuses (like "loading this .... ok, loading that ... ok").

the problem with opening project becomes a bit more clear:

the problem is with Waves plugins (or at least with them for sure).

after playing with uninstall/deactivate/install/activate i got that all projects
with Waves plugins are now failing to load (not like the only one that was previously).

so at least i can say that my project's file is not corrupted and thanks god i don't need to
re-record everything.

however so far it is unclear what is the actual reason for the issue - is it on Waves side or on Sonar side.
speaking about Sonar, i think there is something that can be done there - I think that Sonar should highlight
somehow what its trying to do when loading projects so we could see where exactly it hangs.

i'm not quite sure where to put such request though.

Since you've narrowed it down to Waves, the easiest way to fix it is to uninstall all Waves plugins, then get the latest version of Waves Central and reinstall and activate the plugins you own.

well, i already did that.
and btw i tried to open the project both when removed plug ins and when installed back.
strange, but hanging continued in both cases.

though i haven't tried couple more things that i will try today: removing waves files from Roaming folder and so on.

Waves has excellent tech support. Give them a try.
