Hi All, I have just uploaded the latest Sonar Platinum .08 update today and when I try and open some projects I get a blue screen with the following message: PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA (hypkern64.SYS) .
The PC checks for errors and then advise I start again.
Tried this several times with the same result so I rolled back to .07 and all is fine again!
Any advice would be great, I tried searching the forum but came up with no posts?

Google says hypkern64.sys is a UAD card driver. Maybe try re-installing/updating the UAD driver after updating SONAR again to make sure that's what precipitated the issue.

Many thanks, I did a search on Google but did not find that. Did the latest update and updated Sonar again and fingers crossed it seems OK! The only other problem i now have is some missing VST plug ins so will search the forum and see if anyone has had this problem.

EarlyBird,
I have a couple of Universal Audio UAD-2 DSP boards installed on my system.  Acting on Brundlefly's info, I found the "hypkern64.sys" file in the directory tree under C:\Windows\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository\.  The "inf" file describes it as an older UAD-1 driver.  This driver is not actually installed on my system since I have UAD-2 boards.

I don't see UAD HW in your signature.  Assuming you have a UAD board, perhaps you've fixed the issue by reinstalling the UAD SW (per Brundlefly).

Yes I do have a UAD1 board installed but have installed the latest UAD 1 software available as you suggested and all is working fine without any blue screen tahnks you. I think I will have to rescan my VST folders to grab back the odd missing plug ins which are IK multimedia based.
Many thanks for your help!

The first update in Aug was supplemented by a hotfix. Perhaps When you went back you got the fixed version of the 08 update.

Yeah, a blue screen or fault like that is in a driver in ring 0 (kernel mode) so it's pretty unlikely to be directly caused by something SONAR is doing.  However, being that it's an audio driver SONAR is accessing it, so I get the connection.
Definitely make sure you have the latest driver for your hardware.

Hi, It turns out I still have the problem! It only happens with my UAD 1 card in latest update Sonar. When I open any UAD plug in in Sound Forge I don't have any problems so it leads me to think Sonar has some bearing on what's happening. I have the latest drivers for the UAD 1 installed.
If I roll back Sonar to .07 the problem does not arise.
Any more suggestions would be helpful ? As I am on lifetime updates I would really like to be able to install them as they are released!
Thanks for all your help so far.

Some VST3 versions of plugins do some funky things, while their VST2 counterparts work with no glitches.  Might be worth testing that out.

Also, how are you fixed for being completely current with Windows Update maintenance?  Some programs, like Sonar, access common shared C++ Run Time Redistributeable code libraries, and not having those or other maintenance that developers are expecting users to have on their systems - can cause weird and flaky errors too.

So - for both of the above possibilities, Sonar might be exposing issues that lie in either the flavor of a given plugin, or with missing maintenance in Windows. (not claiming this is what is happening to you - just tossing out possibilities to look into)

Hi Bob, Thanks for ideas! My windows are fully up to date but not quite understanding why I have no problems in Sound Forge or the previous update of Sonar. I am not a computer expert but logic tells me that it seems to be linked with the latest Sonar update. Don't know what your thoughts are on that score?
