Is there a vst that does cool fun-to-watch in-time graphic tastyness?

And for FX, there is Cableguys Pancake, Soundspot Nebula, many of the Melda plugins, and just about any frequency analyzer, or EQ with analyzer.  I'm sure there are many others, but those were just  a few quick recalls...

Not sure I totally get the premise of this thread . . . are we talking about plugins where the GUI is actually useful, or plugins where the eye candy is merely gratuitous, and not actually useful ?

Check this out.

The reason I'm asking is I just got a huge tv for my kid to entertain her friends with. Since it is in the music room as an enormous monitor, I can use it for visualizations while I record. It's too big really as a useful monitor. I still have my little 23 inch touch screen.

Gotcha . . . in that case, I'd like to nominate iZotope's Insight VST

It's 75% mere graphic fun, and 25% actual useful information . . . the kids will figure it out.

In the end, to avoid spending money on the VST (buying fruity loops).

So, I'm using the line in on WinAmp to visualize. Works like a charm. Free.

One of my favorite such VST's is Photosounder SpiralCM, which may be had along with a whole bunch of other useful plug-ins for the price of a copy of Computer Music, which, last time I checked, was $4.99 for the digital version.

You get the magazine, too, which is so dense with editorial content I don't know how anyone manages to get through an issue in a month.
