Since talk is cheap man , I'm gonna keep it real simple and shoot straight from the hip.

I for one would like to see Cakewalk continually evolve and grow as a company  , succeed , and stick around for a real long time ..
That's why I'm here ...what are you here for ?

I didn't come here to play an online musical game of " lets pretend to be a stock broker " while attempting to chart the Rise and Fall of Cakewalk ...all from the comfort of my studio chair in my dimly lit man cave ...

Nor did I come here of become  a 2016 version of Nostradamus  ....

Everybody has concerns . I get that part ..Honestly I do ....

I happen to think that it is kinda sad that people with a lot of talent from the Cakewalk company have to keep coming here to just clarify and set the information straight  .....

Hasn't  all that information been covered multiple times already from all possible angles ?

Would not a better use of their precious time and talent be spent improving the product ?

Hello Kenny ,
don´t get me wrong,
I think that it´s good that Cake has extended the lifetime updates for
sonar friends in a situation like you,
but  it was stated several times in multiple threads that the lifetime updates will disappear
in the end of august  .
That´s why me and several other users got the updates , some of them in a situation
were they normally won´t go for any update (holiday time ,bank account ,you know ) .
This simply leaves behind a bitter taste .
So, I will take cover of the reactions,

Hello Pragi ,

My post is not directed at people like you .

My post is directed at some of "The Crazy Makers" that thrive on perpetuating endless drama  let me just leave it at that for now

I certainly get where your coming from .
What you may be feeling concerning this topic is totally legitimate in my book ...
I think you did a very good job of expressing your self and your point of view ....You took The High Road

all the best,

Kenny

Maybe I'm missing the point, but I can't imagine why people feel that by Cakewalk giving them a discount and free updates for life that it would be a money grab. Seems the opposite to me. I came back on board about a month ago and my upgrade to Platinum, plus free upgrades for life, is the best DAW deal I've ever seen. How can it get any better unless they practically give it away?

Thanks Cakewalk for making such a generous offer, and for offering a similar one that extends through the end of the year for those who couldn't make the August 31 deadline. I think it was, and still is, a great offer.

I don't remember seeing that from the Cakewalk people, only speculation and straying off topic. I started such thread which somehow interpreted it as a rant.

Lifetime updates also solve a long a long feature request. Some just wanted the app upgraded without all of the additional bells and whistles.  It's finally arrived.

If running a campaign then when expires run normal for two months and do another at christmas, this is quite common for software companies with a couple of campaigns every year. Toontrack do it both at christmas and summer, Steinberg do it in summer or fall.

Just extending it on the spot does come out as nothing is really thought through on beforehand.
Just shooting in the dark, kind of....not so professional....

This is the last time I'll explain why the timing makes sense to me (which may be different from why it makes sense to Cakewalk), because there's no point wasting my time writing anything if people don't read it anyway.

  • The holiday season is less than one month away.
  • It would be really, really stupid to have one or even two months of people with different deals than the previous few months or the next few months: Different SKUs in stores, jumping on at different points in the Rolling Updates, etc. It's complicated enough that the new Lifetime Updates offer is different. [Please note: is different] Sandwiching yet another offer in between would be idiotic from a practicality and fulfillment standpoint, let alone a PR standpoint because...
  • The people who signed up in September would whine about those who signed up before or after them getting better deals, demand refunds, come to the forum and complain, blah blah blah. You know that would happen. Look how many are people are complaining because Cakewalk introduced a NEW offer that RAISED the price for many, if not most, updaters (they DID NOT EXTEND THE OLD OFFER) because they have a soft spot in their heart for their customers.

Kenny got it right.

It's funny how each of us have our own point of views. I remember in early August, I was preparing to purchase the lifetime update. I remember thinking to myself, I really hope they extend this offer so the people that needed more time to save would have that time . Yet here we are grabbing at straws's and looking at fine print. Just take it for what it is a great deal and still is a great deal. I want to thank cakewalk for extending this deal for the people that needed it . Even though the deal is different and people who took advantage of it before the August deadline got a better deal, I think it's very nice of cake walk to continue this deal

what are you here for ?

Thanks for telling me your life's story. I found it interesting. In answer to your question why I'm here? I'm here to post responses in an online forum that are relevant to the OP's original question. In doing so, I would like to keep as much brown off the tip of my nose as possible. Otherwise, you and I might be mistaken for twins.

OP: "But guess what, I click the "Buy Now" link and it now shows the deadline as December 31st, 2016 !!
I mean, what was the real point of having the August 31st, 2016 deadline ? I went for it due to repeated reminders that it would be the final date for availing the option and now its extended by 4 more months ? Why was it not extended much earlier, say a couple of weeks or a month back ? I had to advance any plans to expend the amount because of the deadline. If I knew, I could have waited for 4 more months !

How does this make any sense ?"

Well said, Kenny!

I come to these forums to learn more about Sonar and related computer music subjects.

I understand if there are some gripes, really!

But surely the fact that Cakewalk has not locked these forums down yet, and that the senior execs continue to appear in person to explain the situation over and over, should indicate that Cakewalk is in it for the long run.

So I purchased Sonar Platinum initially on 11/25/2015  and then I updated to Sonar Platinum Life Time updates on 6/27/2016  I hadn't had Platinum for an entire year when I updated for the asking prices,    Was there suppose to be a refund of some type?

I've heard of refunds being given back to those who purchased before the year was expired on their initial purchase.

If you are basing your comment on what I have said in this thread Jonness, I'm sorry you didn't get to hear all the juicy stories I could have told you instead of my ailing finances or DMV troubles ...

It is clear to me that I never directed my post specifically at you ...for some odd reason you have chosen to own it .
That falls on you , that doesn't fall on me .....
Now that you went here , you can rest assured my current post is specifically directed at you ....

I think that you can accomplish that goal rather easily with out much effort .....

All you have to do is stop shoving your head up your own A$$ and you will be good to go

Otherwise, you and I might be mistaken for twins.

Well you certainly are an optimistic chap with very high standards .... Good Luck
