When an advertisement states "Pricing and availability subject to change" you can be fairly certain that it will.

I thought I would never write a comment to topics like that, but:
This discussion is unbelievable! If they never got that great offer, that would be the situation you are in with most other Software Corporations. They explained why they make a special offer. It’s because it was a risky movement to change the hole license model. The lifetime update offer is something great to the customer base which accepted that move.
The wunderbar-offer was for customers, who had a PLAT licence and already bought in into another year of support. This early bird offer (the next year of support) was half the regular price. I bought both, then I got the lifetime offer a couple of weeks later. Bought it, too. And I am aware of the fact, that I have no idea if I nead SONAR support after 2018 ,because the software is running very stable and I need at least another ten years to figure out all the functionality.
It was/is an offer! You don’t have to buy it nor they tricked you in buying stuff. I think the 99$ offer was valid for ca. 3 month. If you write, that it is much better for you to spend 199$ over 7 month, than I don’t get how you save up your DAW budget. It is even worse to read, that some people complain about the fact, that CW offers people with a budget problem a solution – which is twice as expensive. Hey, it is for people who had a problem, not to mess with you!

Short version:
  • I think it is even better for them, if you buy your subscription on a regular basis. Steadily income rules…
  • If you are really upset about the fact, that you got a great discount and future customers get a half as great discount for a limited time, please: Stop that BS and start making music with the great tools you have…

By the way, since Sonar Platinum came out, in addition to added functionality, they have published over ONE THOUSAND bug fixes, SO FAR, and they have and will continue to provide updates monthly.

where did you get that number from?

It took me a little while to find where I had seen the 1,000 fixes comment, but I DID find it.

It was contained in a Cakewalk News email I recently received, and the comment was in the section talking about the Lifetime Updates.

Here is the pasted in text from that News email:

"
Nearly 1,000 fixes since SONAR X3 -- and growing!
As of our most recent update, we realized we were nearing a major milestone -- nearly 1,000 fixes have been added to SONAR since SONAR X3! We're excited to hit 1,000 fixes, and as the list of fixes grows, that means we'll have even more time to work on new features and workflow enhancements. All this is part of our Commitment to Awesomeness -- our promise to make SONAR an always-improving DAW.
SONAR Platinum (with Lifetime Updates) gives you updates to all future versions of SONAR so you can continue to enjoy the power and flexibility that only SONAR offers.
Never pay for fixes, workflow enhancements, and core feature updatesAlways have access to the latest version of SONAREnjoy our Rolling Updates for SONAR PlatinumThis offer ends August 31st - act now to secure your Lifetime Updates"

SO, I errantly thought it had said 'over 1,000', and it actually had said 'nearly 1,000' - and for that I apologize.  I did not intentionally misstate the number of fixes.  :)

I don't know. maybe if you purchase something for lifetimes updates - and you stay connected to cake walk for life - it gives them opportunity to sell you the other products that are not necessarily connected to Sonar Platinum   the extra products such as dimension pro that you don't necessarily have to buy to own sonar  - but would surely be pushed as a -- hey how cool is this?

To me its more of a "lets get these guys on board with us for life  and try to get life long customers rather than a quick $200 grab ...

Maybe is trying to be one of the very few companies out there that actually is committed to its customers and wants a fair exchange money spent and a worth while product

Maybe give it a chance - maybe think more of the lines of "innocent until proven guilty."

Well...... not that I've probably changed NO ONES mind - I'll be on my way

Have a good day every one!

Well, you must realize that you can only take the deals that are available to you in the present and decide if they are right for you and your circumstances.  Your choice.  Nobody can see the future.  Like when I spent $500 on a 40" 1080P TV 5 years ago.  I thought it was a good deal just in time for the Super Bowl

Or instead, I could have waited and bought a 50" 4K this weekend for that same price.  Even the 43" 4K's are on sale right now for $299.  But I would have been unable to enjoy my TV for the last 5 years.

There will always be better deals down the road.  So what will you miss out on if you wait?  Does it really matter what deal somebody else got?

I for one am thankful for the nudge provided by Cakewalk's time limited offer, as well as the end of the free Windows 10 upgrade.  It provided the motivation this sometimes serial late adopter needed to upgrade his Windows OS with a 64-bit version upgrade from 32-bit via a clean install.  Did that July 29th.  Then ordered and downloaded Sonar Platinum x64 4life.

Now i have a very clean running 64-bit OS and the latest Sonar x64. PC runs flawlessly.  I am really happy with how it all worked out.  Everything all shiny and new.  Lots of bugs fixed. A clean OS install is the best registry cleaner, EVER... LOL!!!

Would I have done so without the clock ticking?  Probably would have waited.  X3e worked fine on 32-bit for me (long story, but I obtained Win7-x86 when it was first released, but never installed it. With the end of XP in 2014 I had to step up) But the writing is on the wall now.  Developers seem not that interested in supporting two CPU architectures any more and it is just a matter of time that more will stop supporting x86.

But what really concerns me now is that Microsoft claimed Windows 10 to be "the last version of Windows", yet still published an and of life date of 10/14/2025 here: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/13853/windows-lifecycle-fact-sheet

At least now I can count on Sonar 4Life keeping up with whatever MS decides to do

I think that was actually Windows 8. Or Windows Phone. Something like that. Big fail!
