Ok ok now ! I started this 75+ and going hot thread alright

Let me admit, I honestly overlooked the fact that the reduced price offer wasn't going to continue after 31st Aug, 2016 (for which I even got an email later on). And even if it did, well... good for those who could avail of this. After all, who cares, I use Sonar primarily because I love the DAW, not just because of the offers made by Cakewalk.

I just hope the development of the DAW continues with the same passion in Windows irrespective of a Mac version launch. For me, the only reason for disappointment would be if the pace & quality of development and increase in stability of Sonar ceases to continue (which as per many Cakewalk seniors will not happen and focus will stay). I trust the bakers to be working on various feature requests and ideas that many in the Sonar community have voted for (such as signal routing and control view, various composition tools, amongst many others) which needless to say, should feature as part of the core DAW executable.

Otherwise, for me, its been a pleasure using Sonar since day one and I have no regrets in having invested whatever money I have till date on the DAW.

As many said, at the end of the day, all that counts is the pleasure in creating beautiful music...
Cheers...

I can't see how any of this is an issue.

Now if they'd put the price down after August 31st, one could understand a few dissenting voices.

My mate Straumy says it like it is.

Simples.

One would assume most people would think "That's cool, there's a company that's really considerate and listening to the people who couldn't afford the original Lifetime Update offer. It's fair that many (or most) of them will have to pay more. After all, they missed out on the original deal."

But obviously, not all people.

Human nature ensures, when you put a rush deadline on something and cause people to make a panic purchase, they expect to get something extra for it. I would guess perhaps 1% of the original purchasers who payed $199.00 fall into the category you assume to be "most people." If this were not true, Walmart and Amazon would cease to exist.

The obvious thing to do would have been to extend the lifetime updates offer but raise the price to $229.00. As is, the lifetime updates offer is beginning to look like the Fed's rolling QE program.

I'm not complaining. Just saying...

Many of these innovations will be free to lifetime users but some will be sold as add ons.

IOW, five years from now, lifetime updates will amount to nothing more than bug fixes to the basic interface. The loyal customers will still need to pony up for the good stuff. Anyone who complains will be called out as a whiner, and it will be repeatedly pointed out that purchasing lifetime updates was cheaper in the long run than the yearly subscription would have been. By this time, lifetime updates will be rolled into all purchases, and the loyal customer base will pay as usual in order to stay current with all the new add-ons.

It reminds me of the legendary Steven Slate lifetime updates offer. A few short years later, the early adopters were paying the same price as everyone else.

Some people will throw a tantrum for anything. No wonder many end up using FLS, the music program with the youngest user base.

I don't see where this makes sense.  I have both and the IL forum has regressed in maturity.

I think the upgrade offer is perfectly understandable.
1)It's new; it's not the same.
2) It helps people who couldn't make the Aug 31 deadline.

I don't see anything conspiratorial.

To paraphrase Abe Lincoln,
You can make some of the Sonar users happy all the time;
you can make all of the Sonar users happy some of the time,
but you can't keep all of the Sonar users happy all of the time.

I can imagine Cakewalk/ Gibson marketing team throwing up their collective hands in frustration.

My 1.5 cents.

Do you mind sharing that crystal ball with me? I could probably put it to good use :)
In our roadmap that goes out 3 years that doesn't look at all close to what we have on it right now.

I'm sure time will show this prediction has the same staying power as "Cakewalk will be gone in a year after being acquired by Gibson," "Now that Cakewalk has our membership money, they have no incentive to do monthly updates," and the ever-popular "Cakewalk will never be able to deliver monthly updates."
