  • Is Waves Platinum Bundle in Sonar Platinum Redundant or Worth It?

The word Platinum aside, with everything we have in Sonar Platinum (console emulation, ca2a, Pro Channel EQ and other modules) is it worth spending money on something like the Waves Platinum bundle? It includes 50 Waves plugins and is on sale for $495 (after additional discount) at Audiodeluxe.com until the end of the day today (9/6/16).
Would love to hear what people who actually have these plugins think. Thanks!

The plugins are different to a degree but provide mostly the same functionality, I personally would find them redundant and would not fork over the $500 for them.

I've used a number of them in the bundle, and still own a few, but don't even use them.

The thing that is generally lacking in the basic Plat bundle is the "maximizer" / limiting plugs.  However, I got a free/cheap one that is quite good and I preferred it to many more expensive ones.   http://www.toneboosters.com/tb-barricade/

(they made a computer music magazine version, so I refer to that one as the free one - though it would cost about $5 to get it).

Other plugs like the compressors would add different flavors, as well as the de-essers.  The question would be do you want/need those flavors at a $500 output?

I also recommend the MJUC Compressor for different flavors.  Way cheaper than the Waves stuff and sound and works great.

Thanks, Brian, for taking the time to give such a thorough response. Much appreciated!

i will say Waves NLS sounds better than the Console Emulation in Sonar.

The computer music version is free with the purchase of a digital copy of any recent issue (which is ~$5).  Yes, the full version direct from them is $20.  The function between the two is very similar.

I have Waves Mercury and I use parts of it on every mix.

As myolpal, that's what makes a horse race.

It takes all kinds.

Brian owns them and doesn't use them, I do. Go figure.

I would not go for it - I find very little of the extras worth it compared to other bundle combinations.
It's just 10 more plugs not in the Gold bundle, and Renaissance Channel is the only one I added separately having vouchers at some time.

Waves Gold bundle you can get some time very year down close to $250.
Other necessities for me are:
a) CLA Classic compressors
b) Kramer TTT
c) SSL 4000
d) NLS non-linear summer
e) Tune full version, not supported by Sonar though, Maybe Melodyne compares, don't know.
f) IR1 reverb

and none of that extra over Gold is in Platinum bundle. So look out for campaigns for these, I really use them everywhere. And Waves support is excellent, and really well thought out consistent with all plugins with help, A/B testing and also own presets in menues easily accessible, no looking on disk for them. And their license system is less intrusive than iLok(Softtube use it if getting that), you can use disk or just any memorystick on usb.

I never ran a Sonar with PC though, so if any compares I cannot say.

It also isn't included in the bundle the OP is looking at.
