Do you use them on all of your tracks?

Do you use the "tolerance" switch?

RMS or Peak setting?

How much db reduction do you typically aim for?

Curious mind wants to know . . .

Thought I will try out Waves NLS at some time, now that Mix recall exist.
Would be smooth to just save such a mix with and one without.

I just checked out the bus component at one time, and it changed the sound so dramatically(in a nice way) that I felt, this should really be there real early, once most tracking is done. Again would Mix Recall serve to have it removed while doing new recordings etc. Endless abilities to save time.

To each their own, but I don't think the point is to use them as a "magic effect" AFTER finishing your mix. Rather, you should mix with them on already, because the sound will lead you to make different adjustments on EQ and compression.

I'm with Sander on this.

I mix into them, same as I do with my mastering chain.

Would it then be a good idea to have them located at the beginning of the the PC chain?

I think that most would reply that the console belong at the END of the chain.

Yes, last...my mistake.

I mix into them, bottom of the stack.  I use the TOL switch.   I use them on instruments - sans VST drums.  The drums already seem to have been effected by a mix console.  I stay away from them on vocals. Depending on the mood of the song, I push them a little harder on driving stuff, and back the effect off on softer \ acoustic work.  I generally don't put them on a buss - usually if a track already has a console on it.  I seem to use them on every song...

Yah but some people use them on every channel.

I myself use it on my Master bus, it's part of my recipe for making stuff sound like it was made in a real studio :-)

Like said above, I mix into it, I turn it on at the top of a mix session and it stays there. I'll fiddle with settings towards the end of a mix to see if it makes a noticeable difference but otherwise I don't screw with it much.

I concur with using them on every track at the end of the chain. I do a lot of tracking in Logic, and transfer to Sonar for mixing . The Channel Strip plugins seem to impart a subtle coloring (some would call it warmth) that I can't quite seem to dial in with Logic. I usually add only a pinch to each track, using the softube saturation for tracks I want to cut through the mix a little more.
