Hi,

I have a project containing several MIDI tracks that is now crashing for no apparent reason every time I open the file.

I can't even attempt to save a new version because Sonar crashes as soon as it opens the file.

It was working fine until a few minutes ago. Can anyone help me solve this please? I can't afford to lose all those hours. It's EXTREMELY frustrating.

Thanks.

it may be that a plug in your using for midi is causing the issue.
Sonar has a function that allows you to open a project with no plug ins loaded / this helps solve the mystery if it is a plug in or not.

Open in Safe mode:

Hold down Shift and double click on the sonar icon (hold SHIFT while opening sonar).
see what happens.

There's many a good reason why everyone else moved on from X2.....

Grum.

P.S. It is universally accepted that X3 saved the day so please, nobody bother defending X2.

I agree, I remember this forum was full of "crashing" posts.
Its like if I see a post 'X1 or X2 crashing' my first reaction is.. ya what else.
If I see just Pro or PLat is crashing I go.. gee I wonder what's wrong with their computer.
You just missed the lifetime update offer, but upgrading has always been very affordable.

Sorry that's not the answer you where looking for, but it's hard to go back. X1 and X2 might have been the most problimatic versions ever. I do hope it's something you can fix but the software was buggy.

Thanks for your replies. I wasn't aware that X2 was known for its bugginess, interesting to know though.

Is X3 vastly different from X2? I'm in the middle of a large project so would usually wait until completion to upgrade but if X2's going to continue to crash...

Cheers,
CK

Uh,, you can't buy X3 anymore, That was long time ago, the whole company changed from Roland to Tascam/Gibson  and introduced  Artist/ Professional and Platinum. X3 was very good and stable.
Just go to the top of the page here and look at the dropdown under CAKEWALK- Products
If your version of X2 is registered when you go to the page with pricing it will automaticly show you your price. It knows your upgrading.
If you keep your X2 installed and purchase Artist or Professional you'll still get to use all your plug ins and VST that came with Producer.
Sonar has seen huge improvments since X2 as well as a lot of new goodies.

Seems I'm somewhat behind the times...ha! Thanks for your advice.

If I upgrade to Professional can I still open my X2 projects? And will my third party plugins/samples still work OK/remain intact in those projects?

I meant Platinum actually. That seems to be the version that I'd upgrade to.

A new version of Sonar will open old versions of Sonar.
You install it along side any previous versions as it's best to leave them on the computer as deleting things can/will lead to Sonar's legacy plugins not being available in the new Sonar. The new Sonar will also follow the old VST paths so you should be up and running as soon as it is installed.

And you'll get a bunch of new toys to play with.
