FX is another term for an effect. YST is a protocol for plugin effects so is direct X. PC modules use the VST protocol and are effects. When you bounce an audio track with any effects and the bounce is set up to include effects than all effects will be printed to the bounced track. Freeze is a special form of bounce that can be reversed or unfrozen. It works exactly the same as bounce as far as including FX (effects), If the PC is on when you freeze it will be included if in the freeze option for FX is included i.e checked.

Sonar recognizes VST and DX as effects. Also VSTi and DXi too.

Thank you John for the clarification. It isn't totally obvious as you can see from all of our comments so I appreciate you explaining it further.

And so if the PC  is not on when you freeze - it's not included.

What I saw was this:
- PC was on for a frozen track
- when the track was unfrozen, PC was off
so I'm assuming that SONAR is clever enough to work out that PC was disabled when freezing, and puts us back to the disabled state when unfreezing. If this is what's happening, *this is cool*

(without exhaustive testing) I'm pretty sure this is what happened, as when I refroze the track (after a minor edit) it sounded like crap until I enabled PC again. And as Chucke says, this must be true, since it's on the internet now

I have been freezing tracks all week and ive had PC on and after listening to those tracks, I cant hear PC effects
(compressior, EQ, Exc.)
I know the documentation says it freezes all FX and I know there is an option in preferences to choose the way Freeze works (to a small extent). But I still cant hear any change. as far as im concerned, what im hearing is the Frozen Midi track (session drummer / multi out) each track just sounds like SS3 dry.

I could be wrong-eo. Let me enter my Laboratory in a bit and run some test.
Tell us what kind of disease we are dealing with.

Simple experiment - wack a PC compressor on "full blast" i.e high ratio, low threshold, etc. or exaggerate an EQ over the top i.e. low shelf +10dB, high shelf -10dB, and then freeze..

What do you hear then?

I hear no FX
John said it all in his post, there for I didn't want to respond to add to any confusion.
I did test it out. in the freeze Dialog options FX box was unchecked. not sure when I did that
but it seemed to have stayed global through out 6 different projects
(no FX were printed/no pro channel FX were printed)
but that's exactly what I wanted so no complaints here.

Ok so I am confused, just for simpleton explanation. When you freeze a track is the pro channel modules "printed" to the track? Does it depend on freeze settings in preferences?

yes pro channel FX are printed on to the frozen track. there is however a setting to turn off PC FX when freezing tracks.

If PC is turned off when you freeze - it is -not- printed.
If PC is turned on,then it's part of the "freeze" ;-)
