• SONAR
  • Disappointed with interface - plans to improve? (p.3)

Recently I had to upgrade from Logic 9, so bought a PC and a touch screen, and since I used Sonar (and Cakewalk) before my Mc was around, I bought a copy of Sonar Professional.

I am finding it very hard to use -- largely because the mouse pointer is so small that I spend half my time looking for it.

Partly this can be solved by keboard shortcuts, but it would be far easier if our devs take a look at Bitwig Studio, and how easy to use it is -- it has the touch integration I expected from Sonar.

As a developer of some 20-years, I understand that technical debt can sometimes get in the way of progress, and no mater how little debt Sonar has, it is bound to be more than Bitwig's.

Now that you seem to have fully embraced the Agile methodology, with your wonderfully welcome regular releases, do you also have a publication of your roadmap, epics, or simillar?

I would rather not have to buy Bitwig, but if the Sonar interface is not seen as a priority (possibly for very good reasons), then I will put my $300 into BWS, rather than upgrading Pro to Platinum.

TIA
Lee

I guess a welcome is in order since you are new here.

However, while CW is always making changes and improvements, the odds are just too high they would make changes that met with your exact wants or needs and in a way you would find perfect. I also would really doubt they would copy directly from Bitwig or Logic.

Not to be negative but if you want Bitwig then the only thing I can suggest is to buy Bitwig. Or, since you already bought Sonar(?) I would suggest to wait and see. Otherwise maybe a goodbye is appropriate?

Excellent point, doctor. I always advise people to purchase gear for what it does now, not what it may or may not do in the future. "Difficult to see. Always in motion is the future." - Yoda

BTW could you change your font and size in your post, very difficult to read and I ignore a lot of your posts. It's even difficult to read on a 32 inch display.

I could change it, but I think that you are the only person to mention this. I do "this" for the same reason some people use different colors in their posts. I'll think about changing it. Sorry if it's caused you any grief, however! Thankfully, I don't say a lot worth noticing.

Anyway, after post #10 I figured when you have lemons, make lemonade...or even better, add some Cacique Guaro, tomato juice, a dash of tobasco, and make a chiliguaro

Good point. And again, if I haven't said it recently, "thank you so much" for all you do here. You (and the others who help continuously) are very appreciated.

Does anyone at Cakewalk read this forum?

Evidently they do. A few days ago I posted a problem here (quite an obscure one really) and one of the cakewalk staff replied with the solution.

Thanks much! This forum has given back plenty in return to me, it's where I get the ideas for the SONAR column in Sound on Sound, new FX chains, etc...as well as tech support for some pretty esoteric issues.

But reading between the lines, I think what you're really hinting for is more drink recipes.

Thanks, Chuck. I'm glad you like them. And, as always, you're welcome.

Well, you guys deserve the thanks.

As far as the drink recipes are concerned, I kid about them sometimes, but as a heart transplant, hard stuff is totally off the table. I can have an occasional glass of wine (3-4 times a year) or a couple of ales, but that's pretty much it. Thankfully, I never drank hard anyway. I've been what my musician friends refer to as a "beer snob" for years, and we tend not drink heavily. Two good micro-brews and I'm done.
