I'm using a Roland quad capture sound card, it works like a charm. But i recently bought a new Se Electronics se4400a condenser mic and I cant figure out how to get it working. I get no signal at all. It works fine with my shure sm57. 

When i first bought it (4400a) it worked. The second time i tried it, it didn't. So i brought the quad capture and the condenser mic back to the store where i bought it and they got it working. I went back home and it didn't work. So i borrowed another quad capture sound card from the store and tried that card and my own, on my own computer and my friends stationary comp and his MacBook PRO. Neither of the two quad capture cards could get any signal from the condenser mic, on any of the three computers that we tried.  After that i brought back the sound card (my own) and the se 4400a and they got it working again! 

I know that the mic, soundcard and all the cables are working. I suppose that there is something i need to do with computer and i have a feeling that it's pretty basic. I'm using Windows 7, sonar le, cubase and reason. 

Any tips, tricks or ideas that any of you might be able to share would be greatly aprecciated!

Do you have phantom power on???
(And I think the hi-z switch should be off when using a mic/phantom power, but I'm not sure if it matters).
 
Does the peak light on Quad blink with loud sounds?
How is the tracks in/out routing in SONAR?
 
Try to describe the details of how you have set things.

I'm at work at the moment, so I can't describe everything in full detail. But yes phantom power is turned on. I'll keep in mind to turn off hi-z. 

I dont know exactly how everything is routed in Sonar, all i know atm is that it works with my Shure SM57. 

The problem is that no matter what I do the quad capture doesnt react to any sounds at all, no matter how high. On my computer the quad would stay at two bars and jump up to three somtimes and then back to two again, but it's just white noise. If i record it, its blank. I had to turn the volume up to max just to hear it. The noise that I heard could have come from the speakers though. But the quad reacts to noise made by the cables, a little bump would allow it to go further than bar three.


It's almost like it doesnt understand that there's something plugged in and therefore doesn't send the voltage needed to power the microphone. I heard that it could have something to do with the ASIO drivers being set to the wrong input, for example input 5 which in this case does not exist. It sounds plausible but I have no idea to be honest.   


I'm unsure if this is of any help, I'm trying my best to help with what little
info I have atm. :)

There should be no difference between your Shure and the condenser mic, the mic doesn't know what driver you're using, nor the drivers or the Quad know what mic you're using. If the Shure works ok, but the Se, using the same input, same cable, does not, it's hard to imagine other cause than something wrong with the Se or the phantom power feed of the Quad. Drivers do what they do no matter what type of mic you're using (USB-mics excluded).

Except for...One thing to try: A powered USB-hub. Maybe your USB-port doesn't give enough power for Quads needs when Phantom Power is used. The fact, that it worked for a while does not fit this scenario, though.

Have you tried pushing/twisting/shaking/toggling the plugs, the mic and the Phantom switch while trying o get the signal in.

I need my operating system reading my card after i connected give sound to connected and in the same moment disconnected ..
 
Any one face this problem before ???

Have you tried the same input as the Shure?  If Sonar records with the Shure then unplug it, plug in the se4400a, turn off the high z, turn on the +48 and see what happens.  If it doesn't record you have a problem with the mic or mic cable.  Note +48 must be on.
 
If it records you have a problem with routing it to Sonar.  For instance if you have the Shure plugged into input 1 but the se44004a is in input 2 then the se4400a's track input has to be set to right ....1-2.  Left is input 1 while right is input 2.  This holds true for all of my Octa-Capture inputs.
 
If this is redundant-sorry, but sometimes the problem can be very basic.

You should start your own thread on this as you will probably have better results.
 
Are you using the latest drivers?  If yes then uninstall the current drivers and reinstall them as maybe they got corrupted somehow.

The computer, SONAR and Roland are three distinct entities.  SONAR needs to be right with the computer, which seems to work (you can get a signal out of SONAR, right?).  SONar connects to the Roland via drivers, which controls the ins/outs between SONAR and your hardware interface.  With ASIO drivers you get stereo paired connections - channel 1 right, 1 left, channel 3 right, etc.  If you are using ASIO (under Preferences), you have to unclick (highlight) any other drivers (WDM,  etc.) in order to use ASIO drivers or those other drivers will grab back control and your ASIO drivers won't make a sound.
 
If your ASIO stays clicked and at the top under Preferences, you should be good to go.  To record, you have to have the correct ASIO drivers connected to SONAR through its internal mixer.  You'll also have a soft mixer for the Roland hooked up right.  Finally, you have to have the correct hardware connection between the mic and Roland, phantom power turned on for the condenser mic and that hard input correctly assigned.  You might also find a hardware volume knob on the Roland  unit.  That, too, must be set correctly.  It can be confusing with so many spots to check the various connections that are pretty obvious on a  mixing console - tho if you take a look at a pic of an SSL console you probably won't understand it at a glance.  But all that mess of knobs and buttons is replicated by SONAR and your interface soft mixer - thus two places to make mistakes.
 
Hang in there - it is complex but solvable if the store can get the interface/mic to work.

Is sonar telling you device could not be found. If so, disconnect the Quad. close sonar. Re-name the Aud.ini in application date/cakewalk/Sonar.
 
shut down, recoonect turn on and restart sonar. Works for me when my quad vanishes, which it just did coincidently. Can't remember the last time.

So is the mic not working outside of sonar. I'd try connecting to the second input (The Hi Z only works annoyingly for Input 1L, so try Input 2R just to pull that out of the equation. Then switch on Phantom power. The know next to the headphone jack, swing that around to right so it give you direct monitoring. May as well press the mono button too, to rule out it being a right channel issue. Tur upo the 2R gain control.
 
Also in the Quad Caputure Control panel, check that the Input 2 knob (not the Sens knob) is turned up. You could also check that turning the gain control (Sens 2R) on the Quad, and check that the software Quad Capture Control Panel's Sens knob is moving at the with it.
