I always appreciate and enjoy reading good information but would prefer the monthly documentation be focused on the update and use of any new features. Maybe reviews would be better in a separate tips type of newsletter.

I have barely enough time to put together one publication a month . But if I have any material on using the new features, it's included in the eZine. Also remember that Cakewalk adds more detail in the online help. The eZine is more to describe what the features do, and get people started using them.

My interest in reviews would be on a product basis. If it could benefit me.
I read every eZine as soon as the release is announced.

I guess people come to this forum and look no further on the Cakewalk site. The eZine and further info is pretty is easy to find.

Craig,
I would like to have your opinion on Jamstix,(which I use), just because I feel this is a very underrated piece of software, that if more people new about it, and what it can do, that they also would want it. I am waiting for Jamstix 4 to come out, and Ralph says that is close.. So go on and treat the masses to a review of Jamstix. I think they need to know about it.

Craig, I think you got a great idea. Keep it simple to fit in the format of the ezine. It won't be a waste for sure. And anything related to Sonar users is really thoughtful of you.

And I aslo am.looking forward to the Jamstix review. Good tool that isn't used enough.

Seeing as the reviews aren't tied to a function of the actual release how about doing reviews of the utilities that our members have created.
Currently I'm hosting them via a sticky thread at the top of the Software thread. It would be an opportunity to give these deserved developers wider exposure, considering that a) the utilities are all free, b) they only work in Sonar so it's not like the developers are using the programs to boost their profiles and/or market.
As every Sonar user gets the eZine it could bring more traffic to the forum as well as show the depth of support provided by the membership. Perhaps PM me if you have private comments to make.

Yes indeed...writing reviews is a job, and some people do a good job...some don't. I must say, though, that magazines sort of have themselves to blame. They pay little for reviews, insist on low word counts, and have the mistaken idea that it's more important to please advertisers than readers.

Tell me about it, I've written quite a number of CD and gig reviews in my time. :-)

I agree with you about the two publications you mention by the way.

The other side of the story is the magazine (which one I forget) that carried a review of a certain German synth when it was first released. The reviewer praised to the skies several functions that the synth's manufacturer had already acknowledged were either incredibly buggy or simply not working yet and would need a firmware upgrade to sort out. It kind of gave the impression the reviewer had never actually tried using the thing.

Either great minds think alike or lesser minds run in the same gutter, because I was thinking the same thing. I still want to do Jamstix next because I have it on a limited-time loan, but I'l pencil the utilities in for the next issue.

I usually read the eZine while downloading the update(s). I like that you incorporate other products that is SONAR friendly, even though I am not in the marked for upgrading (yet). Keep up the good work, Craig
