Does anyone know how/if this new 'browser plug in organizer' relates to the old plug in manager?

I haven't updated and am curious if it messes with the plug in manager.

It appears that there is only One "1" plug in manager (exe) that serves any and all versions of Sonar that may be installed, with separate plug template libraries under each program's folder tree.

It seems to me that I'm getting anomolies when going back and forth between 8.53 and Platinum with my plug layouts. I can't pinpoint, but something's not right. Wondering if the new  'browser plug in organizer' is going to mess it up more.

I have only been talking about the Browser (Media/Plug-in/Synth Rack) and the new changes here. I may not understand what you are asking, but the Plug-in Manager is a separate, but related utility "which lets you control how plug-ins behave and how they appear in SONAR’s plug-in lists and menus."

You can, for example, create a custom layout. When you click "Manage Layouts" in the Plug-in Browser, it opens the Plug-in Manager.

The PIM exists in its own parallel world, but you can save browser changes as layouts. Check out the August eZine for more info.

Sure. I would like better recognition/labeling of plug-ins. Kontakt is a good example. I have 3 listings for Kontakt in Sonar -- all named Kontakt 5. Other DAWs show me Kontakt 5, Kontakt 5 8out, and Kontakt 5 16out). To get this information in Sonar, I have to select one and read the small, faint text at the bottom.

Fortunately that's an easy one, just give it a "friendly name."

Yeah, I know I can rename them, and I am thankful I can do so. It's a minor quibble, but I would like Sonar to have parity (or better) with it's competitors.

So, 'friendly name' works now?

Yup.... right-click on a plugin within the Browser and you can rename and categorize in one shot.   It really is a very nice addition.

PS: And I did just that with the three Kontakt versions since I also wanted to avoid looking down at the small text at the bottom of the Browser.

Would be nice if the friendly name fro the synths and FX appeared as the track name too. If anyone knows a way to set this.
