  • Is Session Drummer "backwards compatible"? Did newer versions keep original drum loops?

I'm contemplating getting Sonar for Life after not having upgraded in nearly a decade. There is an old project that I never finished that made heavy use of the loops in that version's Session Drummer. I know Session Drummer continued to advance (is it still included?) with each succeeding version of Sonar? Are the original loops still included or am I better off trying to finish the project with my older version of Sonar?

Depends on how old the project and SONAR are. The current Session Drummer is the same as Session Drummer 3. Session The Drummer 2 plug-in and content are different, although worth merging into the current Session Drummer. I am not sure if Session Drummer will load automatically in a project with Session Drummer 2 but I am pretty sure the note assignments are the same even if the layout of the pads is different. As a rule, it is better to finish projects on the DAW they were started on.

Those loops will still be there after the upgrade, along with Session Drummer 1 or 2, whichever version you'd been using previously.

wasn't session drummer 1 just a popsicle stick taped to a paper cup ?
I remember it in pro audio 9.

The original Session Drummer was not a synth. You may recall the plug-in got stepped on SD2 was rolled out. I imagine the threads are sill here.

This article explains how to make sure you retain all the Session Drummer 2 content when upgrading to Session Drummer 3.
