Hi everyone,
 
I recently imported some mono wav files into a new Sonar X1 session. When I pan those tracks to the right hand speaker, they are very weak - no presence and little to no bass.
 
These are just dry tracks that were recorded @ 12:00 in mono - no EQ, no compression, no delay etc...
 
The master output is set to stereo. The individual tracks are set to mono interleave.
 
I have an M-Audio sound card and everything that worked perfectly in my previous setup (Audition 3.0).
 
Can anyone help and weigh in on what I am doing wrong?
 
 

When you say mono do you mean same wave on both channels or the recording is just on single channel? It may show up in Sonar as existing on the left channel only. If so, bouncing to mono may fix this.
 
Not sure if what I've written applies but hope it helps.

If your mono track is being fed to the master bus correctly, when panned dead centre, you should be seeing both left/right signals on your master bus meter, rising/falling exactly the same? Pan right, the right side of the meter on the master should only be showing, pan left, the left side of the meter. If that is happening, and your right speaker is still bad, then it's the signal either in or out of your sound card, or even your right speaker. If you suspect a speaker, swap them around. Does it change with the swap?
 
If you are only seeing the left signal rising/falling on the master bus meter with the pan dead centre, then it's your track. If that's it, then we can go from there.

Try reversing the leads to one of your speakers, it may be they are out of phase.

Hi Roo - different mono tracks on different channels. The tracks were recorded in Adobe Audition 3.0 in mono.

Thanks DJWayne - I actually tried that before posting the message, along with the connections from my OB mixer into the sound card just in case. Plus, the issue is limited to Sonar - other DAW's that I use play perfectly.

Correct. Master level is the same for the left and right channel when any of the individual channels are panned @ 12 o'clock - solo'd or running through a bus or in a full mix. Panning left on both the individual channels &/or separating the L/R faders @ the master and then boosting the left fader gives me full spectrum sound. Panning right in the channel/s or pushing the right master fader gives me an anemic sound, lacking in bass.
 
Using another DAW, standalone VST's and also a regular audio player, the sound is perfect, so to my way of thinking, it has to be some type of setting in Sonar. Would you agree with that?

Have you made sure the correct audio interface settings have been chosen in Preferences? Remember, a single stereo output shows up as left, right, and both in Prefs.

Yeh. Absolutely agree. Check your preferences as Craig points out. Have you got anything in the master bus fx chain, prochannel included? Any sends from either the master or the mono tracks?  It sounds like a phase issue, but is has to be coming from somewhere?

Something to try quick (if Audition is still available). IIRC, Audition will save like 4 pages worth of metadata, which SONAR will read, but not always let you control. Try opening one of those files in Audition, do a "Save as" and uncheck "include metadata" at the bottom. Then try another import into SONAR.
