  • Why is vocal sync turning vocal clip in to a flat line?

Hey there

I have a backing vocal clip that I need to align with the main vocal clip. When I insert regional effect, it shows half gray half orange track, I see it trying to align it, but when I click "Render", the backing vocal clip becomes flat line and no sound is playing on playback. I have another similar backing vocal and it aligns just fine with main track, but this one turns flat line don't matter what I do. Why? Thank you.

Hi. I have not seen this before. Maybe try to bounce the track to itself, or to a new track and try with that?
Best of luck.

If it's in a Take Lane, it might be muted or the track itself might be muted.

Thank you for your reply.

No, it is not muted in take lane or track. And it turns flat line even if I vocal sync it to other track that has the same words in it (another take on another track).

I have seen this before and I did find a work around:
  1. Select the clip that you want to to 'VocalSync' and split before and after the portion you would like to effect.
  2. Clip the portion you want to affect and then bounce the clip.
  3. Place 'VocalSync' on the clip
  4. Make the adjustments needed
That should do the trick? Let me know if that works for you.

a few things about vocal synch.
I never try and synch a whole clip. only small portions, no more than a few seconds long.
Also, I find when some parts a too far off: adjust them manually with the Nudge feature, then use V Synch.
VS is a very productive tool and I would be lost with out it. I use it on every single mix to tighten things up.

If you can submit a sample project that has this problem we'd like to take a look at it.

Sorry for the added rant, but can't help it!

I have been waiting for 3 weeks to even get into Sonar. Application crashes at launch.... And something as simple as an issue with VocalSync gets more attention than my issue? Wow!

If the application crashes, it is a local problem on your computer. It is worth of tech support attention but not likely a bug (which is possible too). For most of us Sonar is not crashing on start. Vocal sync issue that makes a wave disappear is interesting. How does it do it/ Is it flipping the phase? This is some kind of algorithm problem (or not)- interesting. Sonar crashing- boring. To be honest- it been crashing here for years- nothing to get excited about.

How do I submit a project? Would I have to upload somewhere?

I've seen this and all kinds of wacky behavior with Vocal Sync.  It's been documented here before.  I hope Vocal Sync gets some serious attention soon.  It definitely needs it.
