I am getting more requests to deliver finished productions in AAF format.  It would be great if that feature could be added to Sonar Platinum.

OMF has been around a long time and is the standard for interchanging projects between DAWs. It works but it has many limitations. AAF (Advanced Authoring Format) allows more aspects of a project to be included in the interchange. To read more about it  see this  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Advanced_Authoring_Format I would like CW to add this to the Sonar import and export file system of Sonar. Another bit on AAF http://www.emusician.com/gear/1332/going-daw-to-daw/38538

I think this will improve the ability to interchange projects between DAWs.

I also looked at this by coincidence today - also asking for SDK to see what you can do by yourself.
It would certainly allow midi also to be incorporated - but not sure how much of a standard that might be how it's done.

You could at least get all audio and midi clips over - maybe 70% done...
If more, even better.

OMF is crap in that sense - more than half projects nowadays are midi, as I discover.

This is copied from the second of Johns links above.
"...... MIDI tracks, regions, and even tempo maps are not provided for in OMF/AAF sequences."

In principle you could store midi info as metadata - nothing in AAF format that inhibit that, as far as I can tell.
So if anybody start doing it - it might spread.
The way to do it are many - so those that start doing it one way, may get followers.

You can move midi data in music xml - so why not put such a file inside AAF, and also have start position if not already.

Or you extend current OMF export with also including midi on selected tracks in xml format beside as separate file or also start a new tag inside for it.

Midi is so dominant today, one could say, so why is it ignored?
