I think I safe link should be provided if they are going to have a big advert for them.

Okay... so I checked out the Cake link. That's not a "big advert" for paint.net. As far as I can tell there isn't even a link to their site.

It is simply the Paint.net logo (which spells out the site name) and it's flanked by the logos for what I think is Corel Draw and on the other side the GIMP logo. On the bottom right is the Photoshop logo and to the left of that... IDK what that is.

Anyway... that doesn't look like an actual endorsement for Paint.net. Just some graphics for common programs one could use to do image editing and export in formats the Theme Editor can use.

Paint.net is a common online image editor people use just like GIMP, Corel and Photoshop are so the intent seems to be conveying the message you can just use whatever common photo/image editor you want.

If Paint.net or wherever you are downloading from is setting off your AV alarms then that's on them, not Cakewalk.

I'm guessing you could easily use MS Paint to alter Theme Editor images too.

Cheers.

:-) Thanks John.

I have been trying to work up a Platinum Theme so that it appears similar to my daily DAW. I am hoping that Cakewalk will continue to improve the ability to edit the resources that can not currently be customized.

No, it doesn't handle transparency correctly.

I use GIMP despite the user-hostile interface. I'm going to try later with Paint Shop Pro, it does gradients soooo much more easily.

I tried a few hours later and it worked without the warning. The warning I was getting was one of these

Sorry Beebster I disagree. The advert fr Paint.net is large. Its not a ful screen, but along with the 3 others it is. It's on their promotional page, and they are suggesting it. I had not heard of paint.net until they advertised it. They are endorsing using it, plain and simple.

It's good though, I'm glad I persisted. I had tried GIMP, and as Craig says te interface is hostile. There is one tool that my Sketcbook pro software (The equivalent I guess of Adobe illustrator, from Autodesk), the replace colour. This works much better than my fill tool.

Craig, I'd say it's worth a go, it's a free tool and works well. You don't get Paint.net from paint.net, they sell industrial paint. But you can get it from here.

I find paint.net MUCH easier to use than GIMP

Paint.net works great for my needs. Like a deluxe / expanded version of MS Paint (transparencies, etc...). It was very easy to get up to speed...

I'm also a fine artist who does some graphic design on the computer. I haven't gotten into the theme editor because I have Sonar Artist, but have downloading some of the various themes other folks have created and opened them in Artist to see what they looked like. In my personal opinion, a vector illustration program like Adobe Illustrator, or the much cheaper Draw Plus, or even the free Inkscape would be better suited for this job instead of these image manipulation programs mentioned in this forum. One good reason for using vector illustration programs is that you can zoom way in to fine tune your design without the image becoming pixelated and distorted like these image manipulation programs do.

I use paint.net. love it.  that's the same link I used but didn't get any warnings.
your AV flagged it because of all the adds, not because paint is harmful.
