I upgraded my M-Audio M-track to a Focusrite 18i8. I'd say get the Focusrite. Lot's of quality for a few bucks more. Worth it.

Does the Focusrite have better gain than the M-audio?  I hate not having any headroom!

Yes I believe it has 60db gain, which is more than the M-Track. I don't know what the M-Track's gain is, but the Focusrite just seems more powerful, plus the Focusrite 18i8 has the Scarlett software which enables you to control all the routing that the 18i8 is capable of, which is REALLY nice. I wish I would have looked at the Focusrite first, but at the time I was looking for "cheap."

I have several audio interfaces, including an ancient Kore 1 from NI that is likely over 10 years old now.

My primary audio interface is a Presonus AudioBox 1818VSL, with an 8-port light-pipe expansion unit for a total of 16 ports.  LOVE that.

I also have a Yamaha/Steinberg UR22, and that too is rock solid - running in Windows 10 connected through a USB 3 port with no issues.

I also had recommended a Focusrite unit that was comparable to the UR22 to a friend of mine, and that has worked flawlessly for 2 years now for him.

And, I cannot recall ever seeing anything bad posted about the RME units, though I have never seen or used one.
