I often use the bass's in Dim Pro. I have used bass from all sorts of synths hardware and software. Kontakt has some nice ones too. In a way I have too many to choose from.

Try ManyBass from Manytone - it is pretty good and a reasonable price (approx $120) and has a decent demo version. http://www.manytone.com/productinfo_manybass.php

I use the Native instruments Scarbee Pre-Bass, which is based on a Fender Precision. It sounds great and has all the articulations ( pick noise, fret noise, fret taps, etc. ) Pretty inexpensive, I think it's still around $69. I used the SI Bass prior to purchasing Scarbee.

SI-Bass is good and I have put it on records; but I think you will get more detail and realsim with the Scarbees.

I have to concur on the Scarbee Jay Bass, it's very usable and more "mainstream" than their Rick (which is very good though).

Scarbee's Rickenbacker Bass for Kontakt is definitely my GO TO Bass, every time.
It has about 25 different presets for various tones and amp sims.   But at it's core, it just sounds like a real bass guitar.  I have many other VST Bass samplers and emulators, but for me, a side by side comparison has the Rickenbacker Bass always sounding the most realistic.

I use either my '77 Series I Alembic, American Fender P-Bass, Custom 5-String Bass, Line 6 Variax Bass or my Kala Uke Bass.

With all that, and being a bass player for over 40 years, every so often I feel like using a VSTi. Orange Tree Samples (for Kontakt) has Cherry, Core (stand up) and Rick basses.

I'm about to bite on a sale at Acoustic Samples- 6 basses for about $140. Jazz bass, some Music Man basses and the upright acoustic bass. Trillian, Chris Hines are too pricey for me. And for me to use Orange Tree samples, I'd need a full version of Kontack which I don't have.

Kontakt is free isn't it?

Yes, I do have a real bass and can play quite well.
However, when I'm composing in Finale, I like having quality VSTs, the same ones I may use in Sonar when tracking.
Toontrack drums & keyboards, GS-2, Kontakt, good stuff.

The NI Scarbee series is great!
They sound warm & dynamic and meet my needs.

Thanks to y'all for steering me in the right direction!
