Hi all,
 
I'm dragging audio files in from Sonar's browser.  Sometimes it puts them neatly at the very beginning, sometimes as measure 200, sometimes at measure 3000.  It seems unpredictable.  Any thoughts on that?

Are they WAV files? If so, it could be that they are Broadcast WAV files. In that case, in SONAR, choose Edit > Preferences, choose the File > Audio Data category and then remove the check mark next to the option called Always Import Broadcast Waves At Their Timestamp.

Now when you drag-and-drop a file, it will be placed at the mouse position.

Wow!  I had no clue about that setting.  Thank you!  That appears to have fixed it.  I can't believe all the time I've had Sonar and barely scratched the surface of what it will do and all the settings it has.

No problem. Yeah, most professional applications like SONAR have a ton of features and it can take quite a long time to learn about all of them.

Good catch, Scott (how are ya?).
 
I was going to suggest instead of using Drag and Drop from the Browser to set the Now Time to the desired insertion point (in this case the start of the project), select the target track (where you want the audio file to land) and then in the Browser Right Click over the desired file and select "Insert At Now".
 
This is how I insert files these days and it's way better/more accurate/reliable for me than Drag/Drop.
 
HOWEVER I'm not sure what happens to a Broadcast Wave in this situation (and I don't have any handy to test with AFAIK). I'm wondering if the "Insert At Now" option overides the Broadcast Wave position or not.
 
I'll try to do a test by creating a BW if need be but maybe Don (or someone else) could test this out just to satiate my curiousity and add to the forum archive searches.

That's the great thing about SONAR. We have so many features available that the same task can be done in multiple ways and we can choose which is best for our own workflow.
 
I don't know if Insert At Now will override the Broadcast Wave position. I haven't tried it. Although, it sounds like it should, since that particular command is supposed to place the audio at the Now Time.
 
You'll have to try it and let us know.
