I have rarely needed the MFX plug-ins in SONAR, but when I have wanted to, like now, all I get is a Cakewalk Missing Plug-In Stand-In saying that it is missing or not properly installed. Why??? They are listed in the Cakewalk Plug-In Manager, and I can find them under C:\Program Files\Cakewalk\Shared MIDI Plugins. So what is the problem?
Can I have messed something up in the Preferences->File->Folder Locations?

PS. I found a substitute to what I was looking for among the CAL scripts. (HUMANIZE and VARYVEL). DS

MFX plug-ins are DX plug-ins. Unlike VST, they should be registered separately (Sonar can not "scan" them, so preferences are irrelevant). If you see them listed but they do not work, most probable reasons is they are 32bit (installed with some previous Sonar) but you try to use them in 64bit Sonar. Or you have physically moved the folder without re-registering.
 

Thanks! Somewhere deep down I had a hunch. But it bothers me a bit that the MFXs are still mentioned in the updated reference guides. Should be removed or have a note saying something about this.

AFAIK, all the MFX plug-ins bundled with SONAR ship as 32 and 64bit so that is not the problem. It is likely an installatiion/registration issue.

OK...I made a search on C for "ChordAnalyzer" (as an example). Got 2 hits: the .dll and its helpfile in C:\Program Files\Cakewalk\Shared MIDI Plugins. Both were dated Aug 27 2015. And there is no such file (or filepath) under C:\Program(x86)...So far it looks like 64bit to me. ??? In the Plugin Manager they are registered under MIDI Effects (MFX), but the Filename entry at the bottom is blank. Each plugin has a CLSID though... Don't tell me to go edit the registry, please. My thoughts now is to uninstall and reinstall Sonar Platinum if I find it worth the effort. But I'm not there yet. I have put this question to Cakewalk support. See what happens.
 

These plug-ins have 2 entries in the registry:
1) they are exist (and so you see them in Sonar)
2) where to find the plug-in, separately for 32 and 64 bits.
 
Re-installation should help with all possible related problems. Otherwise command like or registry editing...

On my HD they only exist in C:\Program Files\Cakewalk\Shared MIDI Plugins, and that is the 64bit versions, I guess. In the Plugin Manager they are registered under MIDI Effects (MFX), but the Filename entry at the bottom is blank. Each plugin has a CLSID. And in the Cakewalk browser nothing comes up under Plugins/MIDI FX.
I'm not too keen to edit the registry, and uninstall->reinstall is not so fun either. Without being a computer specialist my guess is that something has gone wrong when all these Sonar versions has been installed on top of each other during the last couple of years.
What do you think of this idea: Simply remove everything in the Shared Plugins folder and wait for the next Sonar update to the empty folder?

You could try manually re-registering them. In the Shared MIDI Plugins directory open a Command Prompt as administrator. For each dllname in the directory type

Thanks al lot, scook! But no. Running regsvr32 from the DOS-prompt was successful as such, but nothing happened in the plugin manager (status quo). (I am not sure though that when you open the DOS-window by SHIFT-right click on the appropriate folder makes you administrator.)
My latest try was to remove all files from the Shared MIDI Plugins folder, reboot the computer, clean the registry with a tool (RegCleanPro), reboot the PC again, start SONAR, rescan the plugins (but that has probably no effect on the MIDI effects). After all that, it all looked the same: still 7 entries of MIDI effects but with no filepaths. Where are these files registered in SONAR??? I have looked in the .ini files, but nothing there.

Right now, I made a search in the registry with the CLSID that is displayed below the empty filename row at the bottom in the Plugin manager, and there was an instance with value "Cakewalk FX Arpeggiator". Is that the place where SONAR looks for registrered plugins?
As a last thing a ran RegCleanPro again, and it says that now the register is clean.
What happens if I edit the registry and simply deletes the appropriate CLSIDs? After that put all the files back into the folder, and then use the regsvr32-command to re-register?
This last thing is far outside my comfort-zone, but I will probably have a go at it.
 
 

You can use "regsvr32 /u <name>.dll" to clean the registry.
 
But my bet that you have some conflict within MS Runtime(s). So they can be registered (during installation) but can not be loaded from Sonar.
